If you’re anything like me, your Instagram feed is constantly changing. I used to be someone who had to make sure my feed was always well planned and flowed so that anyone looking at it would find it aesthetically pleasing. However, it never stuck to any one theme. It would shift between bright, light colors to dark and warm tones and it always made me so frustrated. What I have learned is that some of the best Instagram feeds are the ones that care less about the aesthetics and more about the content and creativity. Your Instagram is your Instagram and that means you should be free to post whatever you want, but there are a few things you can do to make your feed look effortlessly put together while giving it a fresh feel. Now, everyone has different tastes and preferences so these are just some things I find work for me and my style when I want my feed to be lively, it’s up to you on how you want to freshen up your Instagram feed.

Here are some things you can try out:

Filters

Adding filters to your photos is something that’s been done for years, but they’re constantly changing and adapting to styles that are popular at the time. What I like to do is have a select few that are my go-tos. Since the lighting in photos won’t always be the same, using just one filter won’t have the same effect on every photo. If you stick to similar filters that add similar brightnesses, colors, contrast, etc. you can adjust as needed and your feed will be well tied together. If you really want to liven your feed, apps like Prequel have been really popular lately. This app takes filters to the next level which can really freshen your feed. Many of their filters add effects that can give your photos a really unique feel. I know there was a time where we started to feel like it was taboo to over-do it with filters, but using these filters allows you to get creative with your photos and have a feed that stands out, and you can make them as subtle as you want.

Get Creative

Don’t be afraid to make posts fun and creative. Something I have found fun to do is use apps like Picsart to add doodles or stickers to my photos. This is a really refreshing way to add pops of color and make your Instagram feed eye catching. It’s something you don’t need to do often, but if you add a few here and there it gives your feed something different and new. And you can definitely have fun making them.

Be Simple

While some of the other things on this list seem more over-the-top, it’s always a good idea to add simple, everyday pictures to your feed. I love mixing in straightforward snippets of my life like sunsets, scenery, art, or food with the pictures of myself and my friends. Instagram is definitely about posting about yourself, but don’t be afraid to post other parts of your life. Doing this adds a good balance between photos focused on people and photos focused on other things. It also gives you the chance to share the things you find beautiful and the things that make you happy.

Videos

Something I’ve been doing more is making little videos to add to my feed. Some of them are compiled of short random clips or even just pictures edited together to feel more like a video, an effect courtesy of Prequel. The one thing I love about doing this is that I can share some of my favorite music as I add it to the videos. It also just gives your friends and followers something new to look at instead of just looking at pictures all the time.

Whether you want to do any of these things to refresh your Instagram feed or not, it’s always important that you always post things you love. Never refrain from posting something just because you think it won’t get that many likes or won’t fit perfectly in your feed. If you let your creativity flow and are open to trying new things, your Instagram feed will be something both refreshing and fun to look at.
