We spend around a third of our lives sleeping, sharing common dreams. We never really look into our dreams and the majority of people forget their dreams before they finish breakfast after waking up. Favorable dreams leave us with a happy feeling the next morning, and nightmares leave us in a cold sweat with our hearts racing. However, what do they mean?

Dreams (unfavorable)

  • Falling
    • Dreaming of falling is very common. This is a symbol of fear in real life, perhaps failing at work or in your love life. Falling often expresses a need to let yourself go more and enjoy more life.
  • Being naked in public
    • This could indicate that you feel like a phony or that you are afraid of revealing your imperfections and shortcomings.
  • Being chased
    • This could mean that you are trying to avoid something in your daily life. This could be a desire to escape from your own fears or desires. This meaning could also change depending on what you are being chased by
      • Animal: you might be hiking from your own anger, passions, and other feelings
      • Unknown chaser: it might represent a childhood experience or past trauma
      • Opposite sex: You are afraid of love or haunted by a past relationship
  • Losing teeth
    • This could mean that you are worried about your attractiveness or appearance. It also may mean that you are concerned about your ability to communicate, or concerned that you might have said something embarrassing. It is said that when your teeth fall off you are losing your personal power and ability to be assertive, decisive, and self-protective
  • Dying
    • This reflects the anxiety of change or the fear of the unknown. This is because change is scary and we don’t know what is on the other side, just like death. Therefore, change is linked to death in the dream world
  • Infidelity
    • This honestly could just be your reflection of an actual fear of infidelity. However this could also be your brain testing the limits of reality. Another source says that this could be the reflection of not getting enough out of your relationship right now along with trust issues and lack of communication.

Dreams (favorable)

  • Flying
    • This is linked to the feeling of freedom and independence, along with the desire to flee or escape. Flying alone occurs most frequently, showing the independent aspect of flying and expressing freedom from social norms and restraints
  • Water
    • Suggests emotional clarity, inner peace, and a sense of calm in your life. It can also represent your ability to navigate your emotions and adaptations to new situations with confidence
  • House
    • Often, the idea of discovering a hidden talent or a new facet of your personality. It also symbolizes a strong sense of self, security, and a balanced mental/emotional state. If you are remodeling, it can suggest that you are working on self-improvement and positive personal growth
  • Loved ones
    • Being with a partner: can mean you are feeling supported and safe in your relationship
    • Visiting deceased relatives or a visitation dream: can be a deeply meaningful experience that signals major transitions or a sense of comfort and support
    • Reuniting with an old friend: may suggest a sense of nostalgia or indicate that you are integrating old parts of yourself that have been dormant
  • Finding money
    • This can mean that you are discovering a new value in yourself, ideas, or relationship in life. It can also be seen as a hopeful and optimistic outlook on your future. Finally, this can be a sign of a positive transformation in your life

Nightmares

  • Being attacked
    • This is very common and can point to feeling threatened in your life, this can be physically, emotionally, or both
  • Natural disasters
    • This is the dream world’s way of processing the feelings of being overwhelmed by events in your life
  • Feeling trapped
    • They can indicate that you feel unable to escape a difficult situation, or that you feel your choices are limited and you can’t reach your potential
  • Failure/helplessness
    • This can represent the fear of not reaching your goals or the feeling of being blocked in some way
