When she’s not working or writing, you can find Sidney Holman working on her first collection for the Illinois State Fashion Show in April! She knows basically everything about the Kardashians, so it only makes sense that her looks are inspired by their extra sense of style!
Her Campus: Have you always been a fashion major?
Sidney Holman: Yes! I’d say around the middle of my junior year of high school, I decided I wanted to take my love for clothes and turn it into a career. Before that, I was pretty set on a job in the tech industry since I was taking programing and web development classes. I’m very glad that I chose fashion, because it’s definitely a perfect fit for me!
HC: Why do you love fashion?
Sidney: I love fashion because it’s always changing. I think trends are super fun and a great way to dig deeper into the fashion industry!
HC: What do you like to do in your free time?
Sidney: What is free time?! I keep pretty busy working two jobs at University Tees and Royal + Reese. I am also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, a writer for Her Campus, am on the executive board for the Fashion Design and Merchandising Association and am now designing for the fashion show! But I do make time on Sunday nights to keep up with the Kardashians.
HC: What is the inspiration behind your collection?
Sidney: Two looks that really inspired me to make my collection were Kylie Jenner’s Balmain dress for the Bazaar Icons party and her Met Gala look from last year by Versace. I think these looks were super unique and feminine. I also got inspiration from the Kardashian’s looks from Kanye’s Yeezy Season 3 listening party. I just love how extra all of those looks were, yet so beautiful.
HC: What is something interesting about yourself that sets you apart from other designers?
Sidney: Something that sets me apart is that I have been designing apparel for groups on campus since my sophomore year! For one of my jobs, I create custom apparel. So even though I have never constructed a collection, you’ve probably seen at least one of my designs on someone’s t-shirt!
HC: Who is your biggest fashion inspiration?
Sidney: I love the Kardashian’s style. And before you roll your eyes, Kim’s husband is a designer and they were on the cover of Vogue! I love their style because they make sweats look trendy, and their red-carpet looks are always so well thought out. I especially like Kylie’s and Kim’s styles. I love that you can always count on an amazing monochromatic look from Kim, and for Kylie, I love how she isn’t afraid to switch up her look by wearing wigs or even a fully beaded dress. I’m still drooling over Kylie’s Met Gala look from last year.
HC: Give us a little idea about what we can expect to see in your collection.
Sidney: You will see a lot of pink, diamonds, and possibly fur.
HC: I have no shame in admitting that I love the Kardashians. I can’t wait to see how their style inspires your looks!
