If you’re 21 and plan on participating in the Homecoming tailgating experience this weekend, there are definitely some tips that you should be aware of if you want to make it out alive.

1. Do NOT go to a 7AM binge drinking session: As appealing as a “case race” sounds at 7AM the day of a tailgate, how much fun are you still going to be at noon? Skip the case race and have a mimosa or a Bloody Mary with breakfast.

2. Do NOT skip meals: If your typical Saturday morning doesn’t involve a hearty breakfast, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat on this particular morning. Make sure you have something in your stomach before you start drinking.

3. Do NOT say yes to hard alcohol: Tailgating is a marathon, not a sprint. Try to stay clear of hard alcohol and drink something lighter like beer or a wine cooler.

4. Do NOT do beer bongs: Skip the beer bongs, shot gunning AND shot taking.

5. Do NOT be “that girl”: Avoid being “that girl” by not running around yelling obscenities and your schools colors.

6. Do NOT show up empty handed: If you’re going to someone else’s tailgate, don’t show up and expect to eat and drink everything in sight if you’re not contributing yourself.

7. Do NOT say no to water: If you’re trying to make it out later that night, say yes to water. Drink water every hour or try to sip on it all day long.
