Recently I’ve needed something to help time pass during my 2.5 hour commute to or from school when I leave on weekends once in a while. Podcasts have become a beautiful solution to this. I love that there are so many genres to choose from, and I was shocked at how many different “celebs” create them. Here are some of my favorite podcasts so far:

The Office Ladies

This is the first show that actually got me into listening to podcasts. If you’re a fan of The Office, you’ll love this one. Jenna Fischer (a.k.a. Pam) and Angela Kinsey (a.k.a Angela) break down every episode. They’ll give you the inside scoop on who directed the episode, who wrote it, what was improvised, how characters developed, etc. They even call up other actors or crew members from the show to ask questions or have a guest on the show.

The Clearing

This is a show about a woman, April, who learns as an adult that her dad was a serial killer during her childhood which is why they moved around so much. They dive into April’s abusive and traumatic childhood as told by her, other witnesses, and tapes of her own father talking about his life. I haven’t finished it yet, but I am hooked. If you love crime TV shows you will probably enjoy this.

What Really Happened?

Andrew Jenks is one of my favorite journalists. He’s not your typical “news” journalist. Jenks gets to know people for who they really are so he can help speak their truth through his film, writing, and now podcasts. In his podcast “What really happened?” he interviews a variety of different people who have had an extraordinary life. I also encourage you to check out his show “World of Jenks” or his debut documentary film “Room 335”.

NPR: Wait, wait.. Don’t tell me!

This is a good news podcast that is humorous as well as educational! It keeps you somewhat up to date with current events while using games, guest stars, a celebrity panel, and guests who call in to win prizes from trivia.

Crime Junkie

This one is similar to The Clearing that I mentioned before, but each episode is a different story, while The Clearing is one continuing story. Each episode is an interesting, sad, mysterious, and unique story. It’s hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat who do a great job telling the story while giving comments here and there that we are probably all thinking.

Other People’s Lives

This podcast was recommended by my boyfriend and I am so happy I started listening! They interview all different kinds of people who have had very unique life experiences. Questions are answered about certain situations or life scenarios that you probably thought you’d never get an answer to. Let’s be honest, we’re all curious about other people’s lives.

That concludes my list of Annamarie-approved podcasts. I love getting to take a break from looking at a screen or changing up my road-trip ear candy. I hope one or more of these helps you get through a long car ride.
