With the end of the semester coming up, we need some distractions from all of our responsibilities. Check out these five books that can trigger some relaxation and inspiration.
1. The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes by Dawn Schiller
The Road Through Wonderland is a memoir recounting author Dawn Schiller’s relationship with adult film star, John Holmes. They met in the ‘70s and Schiller began dating Holmes when she was 15 and he was 31. After getting her involved in a rocky lifestyle, Schiller has to fight to break away from the turbulent relationship. This book tells an amazing tale of strength, courage, and girl power.
2. Population One: Autism, Adversity, and the Will to Succeed by Tyler McNamer
This new book by Tyler McNamer is a memoir about life with autism. McNamer tells the story about his diagnosis with autism and the affect it has on his life. This book is unique and inspirational because the reader learns what it is like to see the world through McNamer’s eyes.
3. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future by Michael J. Fox
Michael J. Fox, probably best known for his role in Back to the Future, has written multiple memoirs on his life and his battle with Parkinson’s disease. This particular book is enlightening as it speaks to the millennial generation. The overall theme is that it is okay to stray from what is “normal” and to blaze a trail of your own.
4. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
Eat, Pray, Love tells the story about a woman on a journey to find herself after she gets divorced. This is a great book to pick up if life has you feeling a little lost. It just might teach you how to appreciate the little things in life and how to learn new information about yourself.
5. Bossypants by Tina Fey
Because, let’s get real, who doesn’t love Tina Fey? In this autobiography, Fey shares how she made it to where she is today. It’s just as funny as it is inspirational, because it is a great reminder that a woman can be just as great at being a boss as a man.
