I am pretty sure everyone has heard of a ‘kindle’ by now.

A kindle is a portable wireless electronic reading device, also known as e-reading, which was first produced by Amazon.com in 2007. Currently it is the most popular e-reader book in the market and is widely popular with readers and non-readers alike. Although it is designed as a mini tablet, the device is designed purely for reading only and doesn’t have any cameras or videos. In fact the only function in the Kindle that requires the internet is the shop tool, where you can explore and buy books before downloading them in your library. A kindle is also relatively easy to use because all you really need is an amazon account and a credit card linked to that account.

I have owned a Kindle for several years now, and absolutely love it due to its small size and conveniency, however I often find people disagreeing with me in conversations. Many claim that using a kindle can ruin the experience of reading a book and feel that reading from an e-book with just be distracting rather than being inviting. Yet I have also come to realize that many of those who dislike reading from an e-book have never actually tried reading from one.

So I thought I would explain my reasons why I believe having a kindle is worth it.

Firstly, its size.

Kindle is small and compatible and are usually slightly smaller from the length of an average book. It is also thin and can easily fit anywhere which makes it easier to carry while traveling. I can gently tuck it away in a small purse and of course a large bag, and easily pull it out to read whenever I want. Carrying a physical book on the other hand can get a bit troublesome and will require a lot more space than a kindle. Due to its small size, it is also easier to hold a kindle in the public transport and while traveling in airplanes. It is also absolutely perfect for backpacking.

Secondly, a kindle allows me to read anywhere I want. Despite being an electronic device, a kindle doesn’t really emit blue light nor does it give you the feeling of being read on a tablet. Recent kindles even have a dark mode function which lets me read it in the dark or in dim light. The font size can also be adjusted according to your preference. Reading a book has limitations on where you can read it and you often always need light to read a book but with a kindle I can easily read in the dark without any problems.

Thirdly, it is practical. A kindle gives you the right to buy a large amount of books in a small space. As much as I love reading a paperback, I do not have the space to store tens of paperback books in my room and neither do I have the space to carry it everywhere I go. With a kindle I can access many books in a single touch and have them all kept in one space. Furthermore, you can easily continue your book on the kindle apps on your phones, tablets or laptops, which allows you read almost anywhere you want. Books on kindle are also a bit cheaper than buying the paperback version and you can also trial a book before buying it to test the waters.

Of course, I do love reading paperbacks. The feeling of flipping through pages with the smell of paper will always be authentic but it is also inconvenient at times. For someone like me, who is a big reader, a kindle is more convenient because it allows me read anytime I want, anywhere I want. I will highly recommend heavy readers to invest in a kindle and assure you that it will definitely be worth your time.
