Top Looks at the 87th Academy Awards

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HWS chapter.

The biggest event of the year took place this past Sunday at the Dolby Theatre; the 87th Academy Awards. We also can’t forget the hottest after party hosted by Vanity Fair where models, actors, and singers mingled until the wee hours of the morning. Luckily for us there were instagrams, snapchats, and immediate posts online of the event so we could gape in envy at Hollywood’s most glamorous. Below are three of our favorite Red Carpet designs and three of the most coveted outfits from the VF after party.

1. Rosamond Pike in Givenchy – Red was a very popular color this past Sunday, (see: Giuliana Rancic, Dakota Johnson, Sophie Hunter etc.), but Rosamond put a twist on her gown by pairing it with red heels. This potentially could have been over kill, (especially on a red carpet), but it worked very well against her minimal jewelry. We love a deep red like this on blondes because it really makes the color stand out, plus she just had a baby and couldn’t look better!

2. Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein Collection – For the second year in a row Lupita brought her “A” game in fashion to the carpet. She stood out among many stars in this embellished, pearl, Calvin number. She didn’t need much jewelry because she was essentially draped in pearls all over her body. This is the epitome of classy.

3. Sienna Miller in Oscar de la Renta – Sienna went for a darker look in this Navy de la Renta gown from the Fall 2015 collection. This dress looks like it was made for her; it fits her like a dream. Her makeup is also on point with the contouring on her cheeks. The navy in the dress enhances her smoky eye and makes her blue eyes known. We love that the gown had detailing at the bottom where it turned sheer, and the open-back sealed the deal with how beautiful this look was.

4. Diane Kruger in Donna Karan Atelier – Inside the Vanity Fair after party Diane made a bold statement in a red pantsuit. The asymmetrical draping across her stomach was very flattering and served as a great duality as a train behind her. Her paired red lip was superb.

5. Natalie Portman in Christian Dior – The face of Dior was expected to be his muse and we loved every minute of it. The ivory dress was conservative and fitted in the front, but had a deep plunging V in the back. Her emerald green earrings were just what she needed to give this neutral color a little vibrancy.

6. Zoe Saldana in Prabal Gruung – Like new mommy Rosamond Pike, Zoe just welcomed twins, but how could you even tell in this monochrome black and white chiffon gown. She stuns the red carpet in Neil Lane jewelry and the fish tail braid is in sync with the soft look of her dress. The black belt is a perfect accessory to give her body some shape.
