To The Sibling Whose Graduating High School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HWS chapter.

Congrats, you’ve made it. I know high school and everything before it can suck but don’t listen to anyone who says it gets better, they don’t know what they’re talking about. Yeah, the mistakes you’ve made in your past, whatever they may have been, hopefully you’ve learned from them and you won’t make those mistakes again, but there will be new ones. There will always be new challenges and hard times when the world seems to be burning to the ground with you on it. But everything your past has been will hopefully help you navigate that future. College will be so much different then you’ve expected it to be, but that doesn’t make it good or bad. In all honesty it is what you make it; that cliché is one of the few truths. Take advantage of what the world offers you and what it doesn’t, fight for. Remember walking away from things is the easy path in life, it’s harder to stay than to leave in almost every situation. Chose what battles you want to fight, the choice becomes easier when you know who you are and who you want to be. Take time for yourself and the things you care about, there is far more to life than school, work, and money. Remember where you came from and don’t forget that there will always be people in your life who will be there for you no matter what. Sometimes those people are easy to spot, while others happen it seems by chance into your life. Take note of the things going on around you and the planet beneath your feet. And above all else follow your gut and trust in yourself. If you ever need me, you know where I am.

Hang in there kid,

~M

Hoping something here will make you smile. And while I'm being optimistic, maybe it'll even make you think a little.
