Join the Pact, Get Healthy, Get Paid!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HWS chapter.

Let’s be honest, most of us have probably already given up on our New Year’s resolutions, but have no fear! 2015 is still just getting started and there is still time to get back into your new routines!

As college students we are all guilty of making many unhealthy choices throughout the day.  Such as eating three servings of the not-so-healthy Saga meals, hardcore snacking while binge watching Netflix, and deciding not to go to the gym because its just too cold and the sidewalks haven’t been plowed yet.  Staying healthy is difficult and a college campus is not usually an environment that fosters healthy lifestyles. So what can we do to stay on track?

Unless you’re are an extremely dedicated person, making your own workout plan or setting a diet for yourself might not work. You will most likely give up within a day or two and slip back into your previous habits. Lucky for you, there is an app that will help you stay committed to accomplishing your goals!

Pact is a fairly new app that was created to help users maintain a healthy lifestyle and follow through with their goals of exercising and eating healthy snacks and meals. You’ve probably heard of other apps similar to this one, but Pact has one thing these other apps don’t, if you complete your goals, you get paid!  That’s right; earn money simply by staying healthy! Assuming you accomplish your set goals for the week, you will be paid for your achievements!

So how does Pact work? Start by downloading the app and creating an account for yourself. Next you’ll have to set your own personal goals, such as how many days a week you want to workout and your plans for eating healthy.  Each time you accomplish one of your goals you have to verify it with the app, this can be done using GPS or photo proof.  If at the end of the week you have accomplished all of what you set out to, you will be paid!

However, there is one catch. You may wonder where the money you are being paid with is coming from, and this is a very good question. If you fail to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself, you will have to make a payment to the app in the amount you have previously agreed upon. For example, you could set your account to charge you five dollars for every missed gym visit. Thus, at the end of the week, the people who were successful in completing their goals are paid by the people who were not successful.

So, the possibility of losing money acts as motivation for you to keep up with your target habits. As college students, we don’t have extra money to just throw away, so this should be an incentive for getting yourself to the gym and choosing a snack of vegetables over a Wegmans cookie.  So tell your friends and join together, before you know it your friends could be paying you for your healthy choices!
