5 Ways to Look Chic When it’s Below Freezing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HWS chapter.

If you’ve been in Geneva these past couple of weeks you’ll understand why the temperatures have been keeping us inside until it’s absolutely necessary to go out. So, when we decide to finally leave our dorm rooms, how are we supposed to stay warm without looking like ridiculous and still remaining stylish? Here are a couple of tips for staying à la mode when it’s below negative!

  • We are big believers in that you can never have TOO many accessories, and in this case you’ll stay even warmer all wrapped up. Throw on an infinity scarf, vest (fur or not), and add some staple jewelry like these gold pieces below to keep your outfit chic and polished.

*For faux fur vests make sure to take a peek at this one on sale at Zara, http://www.zara.com/us/en/sale-aw.14/woman/collection/fur-vest-c483002p1985010.html

  • This outfit is super easy to recreate because you probably own everything shown below. Only a little creativity is needed to put it together. Take any oversized scarf and pair it with a belt to create this shawl look. Any neutral shirt underneath, matched with a dark jean will work great. Here, we see a red bag to add some extra sophistication.

*For oversized scarfs ASOS has them galore,

  • This look has a couple different directions where you can either pile on everything that she is wearing below, or only use a few of the ideas. You can never go wrong with a tan oversized sweater with dark jeans, and to snazzy that look up add a pair of matching gloves and a scarf. Throw on a pair of shades and you are complete! (The hat is chic, but optional).

  • Cara Delevingne is seen here modeling one of the hottest trends of this winter – the poncho / cape. We love ponchos accessorized with an infinity scarf like this faux fur one. The poncho stands very well alone and doesn’t need many extra accessories (that may over do the look), especially in a bold print like this one.

To find ponchos like Cara’s have a look at Top Shop, http://us.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogNavigationSearchResultCmd?langId=-1&storeId=13052&catalogId=33060&beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=false&pageSize=20&sort_field=Relevance&searchTerm=poncho

  • One accessory often forgot about is hair. On a day when you want to look sharp, but feel too tired to put together a full ensemble, make a fun hairstyle your accessory. A topknot bun will keep the blustery winds from blowing your hair in your face, and also allow for a fresh face look. A turtleneck is the perfect item to couple this elegant feel.
