A good manicure might be a Collegiette’s best accessory, but can you find the color that suits you best? Are you partial to purple or are you mad for mint? Do you go gaga for glitter or do you look ravishing in red? The editors here at HC Humboldt share our favorite hues with you!

Sally Hansen – Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear: Mint Sorbet
I got a ton of compliments on this color! I usually go for pinks, but I really loved this cool minty shade. It was a great compliment to all my outfits, whether I was wearing my comfy coral t-shirt or my favorite bright green dress! The polish went on really easily and I only needed two coats. I made this mistake of painting my nails right before bed, but the polish dried surprisingly quick and wasn’t messed up at all in the morning! My manicure didn’t chip until I got bored at work and started picking it off… oops!

Sally Hansen – Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear: Blue It
I absolutely love painting my nails funky colors like this crazy electric blue! No matter what I’m wearing, I can always feel trendy and exotic when I wear this color. The polish dries fast, and isn’t hard to take off. I work at Starbucks, and we aren’t allowed to wear nail polish, so quick polish removal is key: I like being able to rock jazzy nails when I go out without worrying about the hassle of trying to rub off difficult polish for work the next day. Plus, it doesn’t chip! Which is perfect when I play my guitar.

UrbanOutfitters – Teal
I’ve been on the hunt for this particular color for the past 3 years and I finally found it! It’s a foamy clash between blue and sea green, but girl does it add the right amount of “splash” from the dullest to the trendiest outfits. What I love most about this nail polish is that it doesn’t chip easily. Two coats of this baby and you’ll be ready to look good doing anything… from writing Biology notes to holding your hubby’s hand. It’s the perfect accessory!

Sally Hansen – Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear: Coral Reef
First off, I want to say how much I love Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear. I’m very busy and usually have no time to paint my nails. This brand is perfect for those on the go because with just one coat, you’re set! I’m usually not the type to paint my nails any shade of pink. I like the color, but just not on my nails. There was just something about the color coral that caught my attention when browsing through the nail polish aisle. In my opinion, coral is more of a “grown up” shade of pink. It’s a sophisticated color with a little bit of sass — perfect for any Collegiette!

NYC – Fuchsia Shock Creme (111) with top coat of Wet n’ Wild – Glitz (237)
I am a huge fan of glitter nail polishes so when I found “Glitz” in my mom’s collection, I instantly fell in love. With a mix of purple, pink and silver glitter specks, Glitz is the perfect polish for girly girls like me. While the Glitz color works well on its own, its even better when paired with a base coat of just about any shade. I particularly like to use pink as a base coat which is why I went with a fuchsia this time. Glitter nail polish is harder to take off so the chances of it lasting longer than a week are high. Add a top clear coat and your polish is sure to stay on for weeks. Both of these polishes are affordable with a price just under $3.

Essie – Turquoise and Caicos
I’m a very “always on the go” type of person and the thing I hate most about nail polish is that it can never keep up with me. It rubs off after a couple days, chips etc. I finally decided to splurge and spend a little extra on an Essie Turquoise and Caicos. Not only does it last for over a week and doesn’t chip but it’s a spunky, cute color that I can wear with anything!

Revlon Top Speed Quick Dry – Fire
When I think nail polish, I think fast drying!  My nail polish always ends up getting smudged because I am usually running around all day, and even if I’m at home, I never give it enough time to dry!  Revlon Top Speed nail polish makes my nails look great with only one coat and doesn’t get in the way of my impatience!  I picked the color Fire because I love how fun and sassy red nail polish is while still being classy.

NYC – Purple Pizzazz (133)
As a girl who doesn’t particularly care about nail polish or even the state of my nails, I find darker colors to be advantageous as well as sexy. Whenever I wear these colors I feel empowered, vibrant, and even a little bit punk rocker. This dark purplish blue polish brings mystery to my hands while at the same time hiding the unrefined No Man’s Land called my nails, which, I feel, gives me a bit of an edge whether I’m rocking it out at a concert, writing my notes for class, or even washing the dishes. But I probably should stop biting my nails…
