Maybe you just graduated from college, or got a new job, or are simply tired of the city you live in. If you find yourself to be moving, whether it’s down the street or across the country, here are step-by-step instructions of how to tackle packing.
1. Find some boxes, maybe?
Dude. Boxes are EXPENSIVE. Being a grownup is hard! Track down some used ones, or check out your local hardware store to see if they have any good deals. Or, you know, just put all of your belongings in trash bags.
2. Clear out all of the trash
Grab that empty Starbucks cup off the dresser, throw it in the trash can. Find those weird free stickers you got from a club event but haven’t yet parted with, and start reminiscing about your sophomore year. See that the old dead flower that’s been under your desk for 6 months, and start irrationally bawling because your new home won’t have those type of trees. Take a trip to the dumpster and throw away your precious trash, and glare at any neighbors who judge you for openly weeping.
3. Make some piles, or something
The next step is crucial – grab that box of miscellaneous crap and start sorting it. Keep, give away, throw away. Immediately confuse which pile is which, re-sort, and then decide that you actually need to keep everything from all three piles.
4. Feel accomplished, then look around your room
Great job, you’ve sorted! Now take a looked at your trashed bedroom with random piles all over it, and wonder how you removed so much stuff from the room and yet you still can’t find the floor. Get emotional again.
5. Call it quits
Woah. That was difficult – you’re tired, sweaty, dusty (let’s be honest, you never dusted that shelf that you just cleared) and emotionally unstable. Congratulations, it’s time for a nap!
6. Repeat
Start the process over again until your room is empty, then stare forlornly into the open space just like that episode of Friends where they moved out of the purple apartment.
