9 Reasons Why Your College BFF is Better Than Your High School BFF

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HPU chapter.

1. You have real conversations that actually matter

Sure it’s important to talk about the senior hottie that talked to you during social studies class, but once you hit college, you start having conversations about stuff that really matters. Like moving in with potential husbands, paying rent, figuring out your careers, or just talking about life.

2. Sunday morning brunch and mimosas

The fear of getting caught for underage drinking on Friday nights turns into mimosas over brunch on Sunday mornings. And believe me, this is way more enjoyable than spending the night holding her hair back while she pukes up that last shot she shouldn’t have taken.

3. Missing her over breaks

You know she’s a keeper when you go home for summer and all you do is wish she was there with you. Summer break consists of updating each other about how boring it is to be back home and counting down the days until you are reunited.

4. Disliking the same people

You can complain about that one person in your math class that drives you insane and she agrees with you 100%. She lets you rant for as long as you need to without telling you to get over it.

5. Planning to meet up over break

You are both looking up flights to wherever you can meet up before school starts because let’s face it, 3 months apart is far too long.

6. She texts/calls you more than your boyfriend or family does

She’s slowly making her way up to being #1 on your favorites list. Even your SO is starting to think that he is being replaced by her.

7. Being concerned when she does not reply within 10 minutes

Didn’t get a reply within 5 minutes? 10 minutes? What could she possibly be doing that is more important than talking to you??

8. Joining the same clubs

During Club Carnival, you end up signing up for the same clubs because being in a room full of strangers is much easier together than facing that on your own.

9. She likes all your posts on social media

You know you can always count on her for being the first to like any of your posts because she has your post notifications turned on for all your social media platforms. And we all have gotten that “go like my post” text.

People always told me that high school friendships are the ones that last, but not in my case. All those relationships are in the past and the ones that truly matter are those that are built during college. Especially the one with my BFF and co-campus correspondent, Mariah.

Amanda is a senior at HPU working towards her degrees in mass communication and integrated multimedia. She loves all things related to design, photography, and journalism. Her dream is to move back to the big apple and work for Cosmopolitan magazine. When not sipping on Starbucks while studying, you can find her doing crossfit or diving.
