5 Tips to get a Killer Instagram Feed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HPU chapter.

Social media is a growing market and there are more businesses and people using it to brand themselves. Whenever you want to know what food a restaurant serves, one of the first apps you go to is Instagram. Many photographers use it as a portfolio piece to showcase their work, bloggers use it to drive more traffic to their new blog posts, even beauty YouTubers make short makeup tutorial videos. There is no other platform like Instagram and there are more users on it every day. Here are 5 tips to improve your Instagram game and create a feed to be proud of.

Find a theme that represents you

Are you wanting to show off your makeup skills? Your sharp eye for fashion? Your love for hiking and photography? Pick a theme and stick to it! Instagram is a great outlet to express yourself through photos and show viewers your skills.

Use scheduling apps

Scheduling apps are great because instead of having to come up with photos and captions every time you post, you can schedule them ahead of time and just get a notification to your phone when it’s time to post! My favorites are Later and Hootsuite because they are very user friendly and free, but there a ton others out there!

Find your tone

Not only is Instagram a way to show your photos, it’s also a way to get your voice heard. Are you a funny individual? Show that in your captions!

Use Hashtags

I remember when Instagram first became a thing and everyone used hashtags to write out their caption. #cant#wait#for#school#to#end#and#summer#to#start

That needed to stop before it even began…

Some say hashtags are annoying because it makes the caption much longer than it needs to be, but they are the reason Instagram is so neat! Hashtags make is easy for other accounts to find and start following you. Use hashtags that have over 100,000 posts because these are the ones that get views most often.

Get inspiration from others

You’re probably already spending hours scrolling, might as well use that time to get inspired by others! Go to hashtags that are relevant to your theme and see what other users are posting. This is also great when you are planning your posts and can’t think of a caption, get inspired!

So whether you just use Instagram for fun or are serious about pursuing a career out of it, these are all tips that can help you up your Instagram game.
