4 Ways to Cope with Fall FOMO

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HPU chapter.

Living on an island is wonderful – jackets, snow and cold gloomy days are things that simply do not exist in Hawai’i. However, October is the time of year where all of our social media feeds are filled with fall-related content – everyone is wearing scarves and comfy sweaters, drinking warm beverages, and taking cute artsy photos in front of the fireplace while beautiful-colored leaves are falling from the trees outside the window. Well, myself and all of my fellow warm-climate residents are sitting here drinking iced coffee, sweating through tank tops, and suffocating from the humidity.

I spend my evenings in a full unhealthy state of denial – I put my fan on full blast and make my non-air-conditioned apartment as cold as possible, make myself a cup of tea, turn on my twinkly lights, and light my fall-scented candle. Granted, I am wearing shorts and sweating while these activities take place, but I am determined to participate in fall!

Here are some things that help me cope with fall FOMO.

1. Fall-Scented Candles

Bath and Body works is my lifeline from September to November.

2. Online Window-Shopping

There is something extremely satisfying about adding a lot of soft, fall sweaters and leggings to your online cart even without actually purchasing anything.

3. Warm Beverages – Indoors

If your workplace keeps the office at about 35°F like mine does, you can pretend like it’s a cool autumn breeze and consume your body weight in freshly brewed hot coffee (which is also great because it’s free in the office!)

4. Baking

Even if it’s just those pre-packaged sugar cookies with little pumpkins printed on them, I guarantee this will help make your home feel and smell like fall.
