Actress, singer, and now designer, Zendaya, came out with her fall/winter clothing collection with Tommy Hilfiger last Sunday during New York Fashion Week, leaving fans wondering: Is there anything she can’t do?

Inspired by the 1970s, this collection was a collaboration for the rising star and fashion veteran. This is the second installment since the spring line went live in March 2019.

This collection, however, was not her first foray into fashion. Back in 2016, Zendaya released her own fashion line entitled Daya By Zendaya which featured clothing and shoes designed for her fans. When it was released, many applauded it for being affordable and body positive. However, there were some issues with the shipping company that eventually led to the line ending.

Years later and with a couple of blockbusters under her belt, Zendaya returned to the fashion world. The fall/winter clothing line continues its standard of inclusivity by having items that are purposefully accessible. It also provides plus size clothing options as well. On both the website and runway, TommyXZendaya also features an array of women of color modelling the clothing. When asked about her creative choices she said, “It was important that I think every woman in my family felt like they could wear my clothes.” (USA Today).

Zendaya credits her stylist, Law Roach, who she has been working with since she was thirteen, for cultivating her love of fashion. The duo first met through the Disney show Shake It Up and have worked together on a number of events ranging from the Oscars to the Met Gala. In an interview with  LA Times, Law said that the goal was to pay homage to black female icons and to celebrate black life and culture. Based on the overwhelmingly positive social media response so far, it seems as though the two of them have achieved that goal.

Fashion aficionados and Zendaya fans alike can find the new collection on Tommy Hilfiger’s Website and Nordstrom’s website now.
