Bridgerton fans are over the moon about this new Netflix announcement. “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” a spinoff of the popular show, “Bridgerton,” will premiere in 2023. Back in 2020, people everywhere were searching for binge-worthy shows to entertain them during the quarantine. Shonda Rhimes produced an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story based on the Regency era in England that blew up the charts as soon as it aired.

This show was based on a novel series by Julia Quinn, who released eight novels from the years 2000 to 2006. This amazing show broke the charts, and since each book was based on the love story of each of the eight siblings, viewers couldn’t wait until the story of the next Bridgerton came out. After the story of Daphne, the story of the next sibling, Anthony, got even more buzz. His love interest, Kate, was a woman from India, and fans were extremely excited about their representation and culture being shown on this show. Viewers cannot wait for a story on the next Bridgerton sibling.

The new spin-off focuses on Queen Charlotte and her betrothal to King George. We are introduced to the story of how she moves to London and falls in love with the King of England. As soon as the trailer was released, this news had Bridgerton fans ready for a new story.

After this story, the spin-off will continue and will be based on the backstories of some of the elders on the show. The characters promised so far are Lady Danbury and Lady Violet Bridgerton. The elders continuously give inspiring love, life and family advice to the younger characters on the show. For the viewer to watch their story and how they came to learn from their own mistakes is something truly compelling.

As one of the characters in the earlier Bridgerton series mentions, Queen Charlotte and King George’s love story was what opened the door for more diverse elites to enter society. A societal shift in marriages started after their own marriage. It is impressive how Shonda Rhimes continues to bring diversity into a show based on the Regency era. Seeing a story about how a young Black woman grows to later on become a queen is a representation needed in our society today. As a Bridgerton fan, I can’t wait to see what, or who, makes Queen Charlotte who she is.
