Life is short. Don’t hold onto grudges. Live your best life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Howard chapter.

Dear reader,

While many people come and go out of our lives, we must remember to always cherish the time we have with our loved ones and let go of any past hurt that we have against someone. Recently, my best friend’s mother unexpectedly passed away and her time was cut short from seeing her mom again. From this, I have personally learned that life is too short to not forgive. Life is too short to not do the things you love. Reconnect with someone. Travel. Do what you are passionate about.

A good way to make sure to accomplish everything you want in life is to make a list of goals. Tell yourself that everything you want will come to fruition. Call the person that you haven’t talked to in five years (maybe accomplish a goal with them). But, please don’t waste time worrying about the what ifs’ or still carry the weight of a bad argument that happened years ago. Life is short. Enjoy it. If you’re someone that worries about the outcomes of a daring decision or anxious about stepping out of your box like I often am, release all of the negative thoughts. Tell yourself that everything will still be okay by the end of it and you will still be you.

In fact, if you’re reading this right now, I want you to get up, put your phone down, and do something you have yet to do, but haven’t had the willpower to do. I encourage you to look around and think about your aspirations, your dreams, your desires. I want you to be able to possess the confidence needed to live your best life and live in the moment. You got this sis! What do you have to fear? I believe in you and I believe in us. 2020 is the year to make it happen.

Being the oldest of five girls, she is also passionate about young black girls, their self-esteem, and making sure that they’re proud of being who they are.
