Holidays Are For Family Bonding Time In Front of the Television

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Howard chapter.

While Thanksgiving and Christmas is a special time for family gatherings and enjoying a home cooked meal with loved ones, the highlight of the day comes when sports teams battle it out in epic form with live games displayed  on television screens nationwide. Certain teams over the years like the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions are known for playing on Thanksgiving, while other basketball organizations such as the LA Lakers and Golden State Warriors are usually highlighted to play on Christmas. So, while families are bonding over how delicious grandma’s dressing is, watching sports together is a fun way to bring comradery and excitement to the holiday festivities.

Additionally, enhancing the atmosphere around you by watching the Dallas Cowboys Running Back Ezekiel Elliot run for over 200 yards or three-time NBA Champion Lebron James score an electrifying dunk over a small defender is a great way to spend a holiday with friends and/or family. Sitting down and enjoying sporting events with loved ones not only creates a more positive environment, but when tasty food is involved, it makes life seem almost a thousand times better. So, this Holiday season embark on a new tradition by watching sporting events together as a family, or maybe even attend a game if you can! You won’t regret it!

Hello ladies! My name is Alex D. Williams! I am currently a sophomore, broadcast journalism major/ sports administration minor from New Orleans, Louisiana. My goal in life is to be a sports analyst on ESPN one day, and I believe writing allows us to freely express our ideas openly and honestly.
Deni Dedmon is a sophomore speech-language pathology major from Albany, GA. Her first love was writing but her second love was helping others, which led to her choosing a career in speech pathology. When it comes to her writing, she loves to write about everything, from entertainment (she’s an avid Kehlani fan) to book reviews (she’s been reading since the age of one) to controversial topics and current events (ya know, your average angry black girl things). Being the oldest of five girls, she is also passionate about young black girls, their self-esteem, and making sure that they’re proud of being who they are. At the age of seventeen, she became a contributor for MTV Founders and a spring writer for Affinity Magazine.
