Some of us plan out our days in advance and others just let the events of the day lead us through it. Regardless of which type of person you are, these tips can help you accomplish as much as possible in your day.

  1. Prepare for the day the night before. Buy a planner or a small notebook and make a list of everything that needs to be accomplished. Analyze the list and pick out the tasks that you know have to be completed by the end of that day. Once you choose those tasks ensure that you list them in the order of importance or by their respective due dates.

  2. Designate free time in your schedule. It’s great that you want to complete everything as quickly as possible but let’s be honest, forcing yourself to complete 50 million tasks before you take a break is a recipe for disaster.

  3. Pick out one or two outfit options for the next day. That way you don’t waste time in the morning scrambling to find that one scarf that goes perfectly with your outfit. Then in the end you can’t find it.

  4. Pack your bag before you go to bed so you know for a fact that you have everything you need to go about your business. Trust me you’re going to be annoyed when you’re searching your bag for your lip gloss but then you remember that you forgot to take it off the dresser and now you’re walking around campus with chapped lips.

  5. Set an alarm at least an hour before your first event of the day. This gives you time to self-reflect. The fear of being late suddenly drifts away.

  6. Eat breakfast. If you’re anything like me then eating a big breakfast just isn’t going to happen. Whether it’s a full continental breakfast or just a cup of tea, try to get something in your system so that you don’t collapse halfway through the day.

  7. Give yourself a pep talk. It’s easy to get demotivated, especially when you feel as if you’re living through a repetitive cycle. Remind yourself of your end goal or your vision and then head out knowing that everything you are doing is just another step towards attaining your goals.

  8. Check your list periodically throughout the day. You can keep track of what you have done and also what still requires your attention.

Deni Dedmon is a sophomore speech-language pathology major from Albany, GA. Her first love was writing but her second love was helping others, which led to her choosing a career in speech pathology. When it comes to her writing, she loves to write about everything, from entertainment (she’s an avid Kehlani fan) to book reviews (she’s been reading since the age of one) to controversial topics and current events (ya know, your average angry black girl things). Being the oldest of five girls, she is also passionate about young black girls, their self-esteem, and making sure that they’re proud of being who they are. At the age of seventeen, she became a contributor for MTV Founders and a spring writer for Affinity Magazine.
