Traveling to Puerto Rico with my Best Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

My best friend and I had the spontaneous idea that we wanted to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico. This was going to be our first solo trip and with that came fear and excitement. We were both looking forward to visiting a new country. It turned out to be a great experience and somewhere I would want to visit again. So here goes my ratings of different aspects of our trip, hope you enjoy!

1) Transportation

My best friend and I decided to depart from Boston Logan to San Juan. As a girl from the Midwest suburbs, public transportation does not come easy to me. But at last we took the commuter rail from Union Station to South Station in Boston. After that we simply got on the silver line bus and it took us directly to the airport. While in San Juan, Uber was the best mode of transportation. It was reliable, affordable and I felt safe. Overall I would rate transportation a 9/10 in San Juan because of the accessibility to Uber . There was also close proximity that was walkable to things like food, stores and the beach from our hotel in Ocean Park.

2) Food

The food in Puerto Rico was some of the best food I have had. My best friend is vegan so when choosing a place to eat, this was an important factor for us. There were so many different restaurants with every cuisine you could think of. We had pizza, sushi, tacos, burgers, pancakes, and so much more. I would overall rate the food a 9/10. My favorite place we ate at was “Azalea Latin Asian”, this was a fusion restaurant located in Old San Juan. The sushi was to die for, to best describe it, it was sushi with a latin flare.

3) Accommodation

When choosing where to stay during our trip, location and safety was the most important to us. The Dream Inn is located in Ocean Park. It is a boutique hotel located in the heart of the city of San Juan, and just a few steps away from the sandy beaches. It is Buddha inspired, and even has a colorful koi pond. Overall I would recommend and rate it a 7.5/10. The room was on the smaller side but the amenities were amazing. Simple things like beach mats and the friendly staff were amazing.

The trip to San Juan left me wanting to come back and explore Puerto Rico. There is so much to do as young travelers and it felt like such a safe place to travel to. With the crazy lives we live as college students, this was a refreshing break that I will never forget.
