Top Closet Trends for Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

The sun starts to set a little earlier, the leaves begin to change color and the temperature slowly begins to drop. Labor Day comes and goes and suddenly you are left with a lot of white jeans and shorts that are out of season. What are some fall essentials you need in your closet to match your lingering tan? Keep these tips in mind while searching for your chic autumn look!

1. Jeans are a must have!!Jeans can make for a great transition piece into the fall. Instead of having those easy cut off shorts, now you need a darker wash pant. Avoid any light-wash colors or even any bleach-washed jeans. The DL Jean is this year’s number 1 selling jean, and they have so many different styles it would be hard not to find your perfect fit! Dark washes will look great with fall colors and sweaters that will take you into the start of winter.  A skinny leg, dark-wash jean is perfect and will look great tucked into a tall boot or with wedges for a night out.

2. Have a Go-To JacketThe great thing about the arrival of fall and the changing of the foliage is the ability to layer! Finding a nice neutral-colored jacket is really important to tie together your fall look and keep out the chillier air. Whether it’s over a heavier sweater or just with a lightweight shirt underneath, a jacket will make any outfit look more polished and have you feeling more put together. For a classic, turn to Barbour for great quality jackets that can last you into winter.  An alternative is the J.Crew Factory Everett Field Jacket, currently priced at under 100 dollars. Whatever you choose, investing in a great lightweight jacket for fall is one purchase you will not regret.

3. Sweater WeatherSweaters can be a lot of fun because they are easy to throw on and give any outfit an effortless yet chic look. Pair a sweater with some skinny jeans and a jacket and you’ve got yourself an outfit worth repeating. This season, oversized sweaters are all the rage. To balance out the look pair with leggings and boots. With sweaters, the possibilities are endless, so do it big this fall by layering your sweaters over a button down or chambray shirt and adding some sparkle.

4. Look Cute with a Boot!Boots are definitely a staple to your fall wardrobe (but do I really have to tell you that?). Boots are versatile and can be worn to class or out for a night on the town. Whether you prefer your boots tucked into your skinny jeans or worn with a mini-skirt, a good pair of boots will be sure to make your fall fashionable.

Now, when you are searching through your closet to find that perfect cute outfit to wear to football games, don’t’ stress! With these autumn essentials it shouldn’t be that hard to countless outfits. Happy fall!
