My first semester at Holy Cross has been a whirlwind of adjustments to my lifestyle, but these experiences have shaped my college identity and created lifelong memories. I remember walking onto campus in early August, with the blowing winds and the harsh rains pouring down, but nothing could dampen the excitement of moving day. From the moment I set foot on campus, I knew this was the right decision, and I have not regretted it since. This semester has brought challenges, but also joy with connections that outweigh any struggles.Â
Academically, the semester has pushed me harder than any semester before. The workload is heavier than in high school, but this has allowed me to figure out time management quickly. Late nights working in my room, meeting with classmates to go over material, or spending hours on end in the library studying for an exam are all part of my new routine. The changes have certainly been an adjustment, but the skills that I am learning have allowed me to see my academic growth even in such a short period of time.Â
During my time on campus, I have put in the effort to attend multiple school events, which has helped me branch out and reach out to new people. I still remember the first time I spoke with my orientation group, the first club event I attended, and the first weekend I truly felt like I belonged. Each of those moments felt like a small memory, but now, as I reflect, I realize they have shaped my social life on the Hill.
This semester wasn’t perfect; there were many awkward moments, days when the work felt like too much, and times I just needed a break, but every experience taught me something about who I am becoming. As I look ahead to the next semester, I’m confident that these moments will only improve from now on and that the Hill is the best place for me.
