As our final week of classes comes to a close, I look back in disbelief at how quickly this semester has gone by. Although classes start to wind down, the assignments definitely do not. This time of year can feel very stressful as we are in the final push to submit all of our work for each class. This is a reminder to try your best to stay calm and tackle each task one at a time. Prioritize scheduling out your day to create a balance between school work and downtime. While it is important to succeed academically, it is just as important to allow yourself time to decompress either by yourself or with your friends. Taking 30 minutes in between study sessions to meet with a friend for lunch or coffee can greatly improve your mood and ability to focus.
Specifically when we enter the study period before finals week, the lack of a consistent routine can be daunting. I find it helpful to study for each final during the same time that you would have the class period during the day. This can help build some structure back into your week. Trying your best to keep a regular schedule can reduce the stress of figuring out how to balance your time dedicated to each subject.
One last tip that I find helpful during finals is to find time in your day for some sort of physical activity. This could be going to the Jo for a workout, or even just a 15 minute walk around campus to clear your head. Sitting in one chair in the library all day can become frustrating and uncomfortable. Getting up, moving around, and getting some fresh air can give your mind a well deserved break from cramming for exams.
I hope that everyone has a fantastic last couple of weeks here on campus! Remember that balance is key to achieving the goals we set for ourselves!
