Being a student at the College of the Holy Cross comes with plenty of advantages. Aside from the many opportunities presented to us on campus, the city of Worcester provides for us its own perfect set of opportunities with amazing restaurants, shopping, and various other activities!

Restaurants:

Flying Rhino Café, 278 Shrewsbury Street: Great food and an adorable atmosphere, the Flying Rhino is a perfect stop when you’ve eaten the same sandwich from Kimball one too many times. If you’re in the mood for a greasy burger or even just a really good salad, definitely try out the Flying Rhino for cheap, quick, and excellent food!

Sweet – Kitchen + Bar, 72 Shrewsbury Street: If you’re looking for a fun atmosphere and some fantastic dessert, Sweet is absolutely the right place to go! The dosants are an absolute can’t miss. Sweet just started serving Sunday morning brunch, the fritatta trumps a Kimball omelet every day. Sweet has been featured in several TV shows on the food network. In addition, the Her Campus Holy Cross launch party was hosted at Sweet!

111 Chop House, 111 Shrewsbury Street : A little on the pricy side, 111 Chop House is good if you have some extra cash and our looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion. However, on weekdays, they offer a special bar menu with steaks and apps all under eight dollars (cheapter than one Kimball swipe!!). Eating at the Chop is a real treat, so make sure that next time your parents are in town you make a reservation.

Jake’s Wayback Burgers, 11 Tobias Boland Way: When the shuttle seems to be taking forever and you’re starving, stuck in the Walmart parking lot, make sure to stop by Jake’s. Jake’s features amazing burgers and specialty shakes. The shake of the month is pumpkin pie…. and pumpkin is a veggie, so eat up!

Shopping:

It goes without saying that shopping is a pretty important part of life as a girl in college. Whether it’s browsing the Internet for deals from Tobi and Urban, or stocking up on jeans from your favorite store back home during break, we all do it. Luckily for us, Worcester provides yet another opportunity to waste our cash on clothes we’ll maybe wear to Leitram’s twice before they’re officially ruined.

Blackstone Valley is just a short ride away, whether by shuttle provided by Holy Cross or by cab. Stores ranging from Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack to Banana Republic Factory and Ann Taylor LOFT provide endless options when you’re in the mood for a quick shopping fix.

Health/Beauty:

After cramming for midterms and undergoing the stress that comes along with packing and unpacking a new wardrobe over fall break, sometimes all we need is a little R&R time for ourselves. Even at our busiest it’s nice to take a relaxing break from school and pamper ourselves a little! Luckily, Worcester gives us plenty of opportunities to do so, many of which are not well known across campus.

Below is a list of sure-fire ways to unwind, all of which are very easily accessible to students at Holy Cross. Whether it’s with a nice manicure-pedicure, or a challenging yoga class, don’t forget to devote some time to yourself!
