A Realistic Morning Routine for College Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

I’ve always wanted to be a morning person. I frequently find myself perusing the web for celebrities’ morning routines, seeking to emulate the ideal morning according to Gwyneth Paltrow’s publicist. I set my alarm to go off hours earlier than normal, I dream of kale smoothies and sunrise meditation, and I tuck myself into bed at a reasonable hour, only to end up hitting snooze multiple times and waking up mad at myself and my failure to channel my inner Oprah. After one too many morning routine failures, I decided to create my own practical morning routine for college students who aspire to be morning people.

Step One: Wake up one hour before your first activity of the day. Whether it be class, a workout, or even a laundry session, set your alarm for an hour before it. There is nothing better than having extra time to yourself in the morning.

Step Two: Make your bed. Before I went to college, my grandmother told me to make my bed every single morning because it ensures that you accomplish something every day. It takes only a few seconds to spruce up your bed and leave your room looking neat and your soul feeling productive!!

Step Three: Breakfast — they really weren’t lying when they said it’s the most important meal of the day. Take time for yourself every morning by sitting down with a bowl of cereal or yogurt and a cup of coffee and enjoying the present moment!

Step Four: Stretch. It sounds silly but a quick stretch in the morning gets your blood flowing and gives you a boost of energy. As you wait for your coffee to brew or your shower to heat up, do a couple easy stretches.

Step Five: Open your windows and let the sunlight in. There’s nothing better than a little sunshine first thing in the morning!!

If you’re looking to spruce up your morning routine, give these steps a try!!
