Rating the Performances at the 63rd Grammy Awards

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

Wow! What a night of live music performances at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards last night! If you didn’t get a chance to watch, here is a list of my personal favorite performances that I definitely recommend checking out on Youtube. Obviously, I have my own personal biases, but there really wasn’t a performance I didn’t enjoy.

Dua Lipa

Okay. I have never been a huge Dua Lipa fan, and this performance has me listening to her album on repeat. She performed her song “Levitating” with DaBaby in an iconic sparkly pink oversized blazer that screamed Girl Boss! She put on a powerful and super fun dance performance and even took off her blazer to reveal a super fun sparkly pink two piece outfit! Not to mention her voice sounded incredible and had everyone singing and dancing along from their couches!

Harry Styles

I had such a hard time deciding whether Harry or Dua Lipa would make the number one on my list, but don’t be fooled by my placement, his performance was amazing. Harry performed his popular song “Watermelon Sugar High” in an amazing custom Gucci leather suit and a big green boa scarf. He was clearly having so much fun on stage and made us all wish he could sing to us forever.

Megan Thee Stallion feat. Cardi B

Megan Thee Stallion absolutely killed her performance of “Savage.” Megan and Cardi B were definitely having fun during their duo performance. Megan began her performance in a pearly white gown and her dancers’ outfits matched alongside her. Megan clearly proved herself worthy of all of her fame and success when she won three of the major Grammy’s categories. Billie Eilish even dedicated her huge win to Megan when Eilish won “Record of the Year.”

Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak

Bruno Mars never disappoints in terms of his live performances, and this was no exception. Bruno and Anderson.Paak did a groovy old-school style performance of their newest single “Leave the Door Open”. They also did a really cool 70’s themed tribute cover of a song by rock-and-roll star Little Richard who recently passed.

Post Malone

Post Malone put on an extremely powerful rock-star performance of his song “Hollywood’s Bleeding”. He performed in a long leather overcoat in clouds of fog. His raspy and powerful voice left me extremely impressed!

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift put on a magical folklore-esque performance in a beautiful set of a small, fairy-like cottage in the woods. She sang some of her new songs from “folklore” and “evermore,” while wearing a stunning bohemian dress. Her and her band performed beautifully heartfelt renditions of her songs “willow” and “august.” I would have definitely rated her performance higher on my list, but part of me wanted her to add in an oldie for my middle school fan-girl self.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish performed her song “everything I wanted” and it is safe to say she gave me chills. Her voice was nothing short of angelic. She performed with her brother Phinneas, who often collaborates with Billie in song-writing. This performance definitely proved that this song deserved “Record of the Year,” making this her 7th grammy award at only age 19!

While these were my favorites, many other artists put on some excellent performances. Honorable mentions go to DaBaby, Doja Cat, Roddy Rich, Lil Baby, Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton, BTS, Brandi Carlile, Bad Bunny, Brittany Howard, HAIM, Miranda Lambert, and more!
