My Top 5 Summer Wardrobe Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

It is finally time to talk about summer fashion. Somehow, I find that dressing for summer is simultaneously the easiest and hardest season to dress for. Fewer layers mean less pieces to put together when making an outfit, so in theory, it should be easier to dress for summer than any other time of year. Unfortunately, it’s too hot in summer to save a bad outfit with many of the accessories that save the day in other seasons. To make it through summer fashion, you need the essentials.

Looking at my closet right now, I have noticed some pieces I’m excited to wear again as well as some essentials I am missing. With this list, I hope none of you have an “I have nothing to wear” moment this summer.

One good pair of jean shorts

Shopping for jean shorts is arguably one of the most difficult tasks when shopping. Lately, I have been loving Abercrombie’s jean shorts, and I have one pair that I wore consistently at the end of last summer. As long as you have a pair of jean shorts you really like, you will always have a basic pair with a variety of tops.

Plain Tees and Tanks

Although fancy tops are fun, adding plain, neutral T-shirts and tank tops will be a game changer for the summer. You can wear these tops with jean shorts, flowy pants, a skirt, and the list goes on! These pieces also transition well into other seasons. Lately, I have been an especially big fan of Urban’s basic tops.

Bikinis that can mix and match

My favorite thing is finding a bikini that can work in so many different ways. Double-sided or colors that can be mixed and matched make buying bathing suits way easier.

A good pair of sunglasses… and a pair of backups

A nice pair of sunglasses are an investment that can be well worth it for summer. I also think it’s important to have a few fun and cheaper pairs of sunglasses from Amazon for summer activities with more wear and tear.

A long, casual dress

I am still on the hunt for a long, casual dress for this summer. I love the look for any occasion. They can be dressed up with jewelry and heels, or dressed down with white sneakers and a light jacket.
