In my opinion, fall is the best season. The color change of the leaves is amazing, the weather is perfect, as it is not too hot but not too cold, and there are so many fun seasonal activities to indulge in. It may come as a surprise, but Worcester is home to many fun fall activities! From classic fall traditions to stunning nature spots, there is always something for everyone to enjoy.
Starting on the fall traditions side, Worcester has five farms/orchards within close proximity where you can go apple picking, pumpkin picking, and, of course, enjoy a classic apple cider-based treat. My personal favorite is Berlin Orchards. My friends and I went there last year, where we spent the day apple picking and ended it with a warm cup of apple cider. The atmosphere was perfect: there was a cool breeze, warmth from the sun, and the vibrant color of the trees was overwhelming. The ride to and from campus was no more than 20 minutes: it was so convenient!
Now moving on to the nature side, Worcester has at least five parks and reservations where you can go for a hike or just an average fall walk. My favorite is Elm Park. Elm Park is a park located in Worcester that offers a playground for children and also a paved loop for walkers. I came here a lot last year in the fall and in the spring to run, as the loop is smooth and flat. It is my favorite to go in fall because the trees surrounding the path turn a beautiful orange and red color. There is also a small bridge over water, which I think is very fun and enjoyable. It is also only ten minutes from campus!
Finally, focusing on local upcoming fall events, I will discuss a couple. This Saturday, the 47th annual Brookfield Apple Country Fair is coming. In terms of distance, it is a bit on the longer side, 35 minutes, but it is totally worth it. Over 90 local vendors come together, showcasing their handmade crafts. Food trucks and fall treats will also be offered, as well as all-day entertainment. If you love fall, this fair is perfect for you! Another local fall event around the same distance away is the Hollis Hills Farm Festival. This festival includes apple picking, pumpkin carving, special flower vendors, and other treats! Again, another event perfect for a fall lover like myself.
