How to Have a Fun Fall Break

Now that October is in full swing, everyone is itching for fall break: the time to give your body the rest it needs from all the hard work you’ve done throughout the first half of the semester. Personally, this is my favorite break because it is an enjoyable reset, and I am also able to do some fun activities. Here are some ideas for how to enjoy your fall break:

Bingewatch your favorite fall shows. Autumn is a great time to get back into shows or movies that establish the aesthetic of fall. Whether you dive into the lovable mother-daughter relationship of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore in “Gilmore Girls,” or sit on the edge of your seat watching the Sanderson Sisters in “Hocus Pocus,” these levels of entertainment bring a sense of comfort into your home.

Go to a pumpkin patch. Everyone loves to have their houses decorated for different holidays and seasons. Going to a pumpkin patch is the first step to getting into the autumn spirit! You can leave pumpkins inside your house for decoration, carve them with your siblings, or have a painting contest with your friends. Also, pumpkin patches have great aesthetics for taking pictures of the scenery or friends that you can hold onto forever.

Choose your Halloween costume. Halloween is just around the corner, and you do not want to miss out on getting the best costumes. Amazon, Spirit Halloween, and Shein are fantastic places to get cheap, easy costumes you can piece together. Personally, I plan on being the White Queen from Alice in Wonderland, Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries, and a ballerina. Therefore, I definitely will be using fall break to get situated with all of my costumes.

Ultimately, fall break is the perfect opportunity to take a step back from the stress of school and enjoy everything autumn has to offer. Whether you spend your time relaxing on the couch, exploring a pumpkin patch, or preparing for Halloween, there are plenty of ways to make the most of your time off. Most importantly, remember to prioritize yourself and enjoy the little things before returning to the busy semester ahead! Happy fall break!

Hi! My name is Deirdre Mitchell and I’m from Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. I graduated from Academy of Notre Dame in Radnor, Pennsylvania in June of 2024, and I look forward to continuing my academic career here at Holy Cross. I love spending time with others, specially my family and friends. In high school, I was a competition dancer, which definitely took up a lot of my time. Also, I always had a very big interest in writing, so I look forward to continue in HerCampus!
