It’s officially Spring, and as cliche as it sounds, it is the perfect time to start a routine and clean your spaces! With the weather warming up and my mood always higher, I feel better when my space is clean. I love to feel productive during the Spring; one of my favorite ways to do that is to create a good routine. But before starting a good routine, I need a clean space and mind!

Get New Sheets:

One of my favorite ways to spruce up my room in the Spring is to change my sheets to a colorful, clean pair. You can find adorable springy sheet sets from Target and Urban Outfitters. Doing so will instantly transform your space and boost your mood. So opt for a brighter set than your previous sheets! I also recommend getting into a laundry routine! Whether washing your sheets once a week, once over two weeks, or just swapping your sheets every few days, try to get into a habit!

Deep Clean Everything:

I am guilty of letting my room get messy too often. Instead of just picking up your things, deep clean your room. Vacuum your rug and swiffer your floor. Wipe down your desk, make your bed, and wipe your TV. Wash your windows! I guarantee you have not touched them since you moved in because I don’t think I have either! If you have a fridge in your room, go through it and remove everything you don’t eat. Now, wipe down the inside and outside of your fridge. Go through your snack bin and do the same thing. You will feel so much better knowing that your space is clean. Do your best to keep it this way!

Go Through Your Makeup:

This one may seem random, but I rarely go through my makeup. All of your pressed powders that are broken: get rid of them. If you see months and months-old mascaras, throw them out. Try to pare down your makeup to what you use. It will free up so much space and make you feel organized. I also rarely clean my makeup. If your liquids are spilled or powders are loose, take a makeup wipe and clean off the makeup so it looks brand new. Another important way to start fresh is to clean your brushes! I am so guilty of skipping this! Just because you use one brush for one product doesn’t mean it isn’t dirty. Every time you put the brush on your face, you take that bacteria and put it back into the product. This can cause acne and has such a simple fix.

Go Through Your Phone:

My phone can be so overwhelming. I am constantly downloading apps from ads that clutter my home screen. Go through all your apps and delete the ones you don’t use. I also try to keep my phone to only one home screen. I put apps in folders titled Photography, Socials, Music, etc. This allows me to focus on my task instead of getting distracted by my phone. I also try to turn off my notifications that aren’t texts or calls. I don’t like seeing how many notifications I have on Instagram and TikTok because it can be distracting. It has also been essential in reducing my screen time. Deleting photos is the most important way I like to declutter my phone. I never do this, and then my storage is always full. Doing this every few months has been so essential to my storage. Cleaning your phone may seem odd, but we are always on it. It is just one simple way to declutter your life and feel less overwhelmed.

Go Through Your Closet:

I do this every month. My closet at school is always overflowing, so I try only to keep clothes here that fit with the season. Along with doing this, I also clean out my closet frequently. In the Spring, I like to go through some of my sweaters and coats and pack them away for the spring and summer seasons. I also check to make sure I still wear all of my clothes. If I haven’t worn an item in a few months, I will donate it, give it to a friend, or throw it out if it is ripped or stained. Holy Cross’ Her Campus chapter hosts an annual “thrift store” where you can shop for pre-owned clothing. If you plan on getting rid of clothes, consider donating to the upcoming thrift store after Easter break!

Create a Routine:

Nothing is worse than having your room spotless only to ruin it within a week. To avoid this, create a cleaning routine! For example, Swiffer and vacuum weekly and stick to it. Wipe down your surfaces and go through your fridge every week too. Make your bed every morning, and when you get dressed, always put your clothes in your laundry basket. These are just a few tips to keep your space tidy and stop the clutter!
