Here’s Why Spring is the Best Season For my Health

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

With temperature’s rising and the days growing longer, spring has officially arrived in New England. The season that signifies growth and new beginnings has already brought a liveliness to campus that I haven’t seen since the fall! In fact, it’s scientifically proven that spring is the best season for your health. Here are some reasons why:

More Time Spent Outdoors

There’s no need to worry about an upcoming blizzard or the next cold spell. Now that the weather conditions are actually bearable, devoting time in your day to nature is a great way to kick off the spring season. Studies have shown that spending time outside, especially after a long winter, allows for better sleep and reduces stress, to name a few benefits.

Sunlight

Now that the sun doesn’t set as early as 4:00 pm (thank you daylight savings!), make sure to embrace the strengthening sunshine. Simply finding a spot to sit and catch some rays can contribute greatly to your well-being. Exposure to sunlight helps boost the serotonin levels in your brain, which can give you more energy and help keep you calm, positive, and focused.

Plant Growth

Witnessing the leaves slowly growing back on the trees never fails to make me happy. In recent weeks, plant growth has become more and more noticeable on campus. This can be extremely beneficial to your mental health, as this form of new life represents that there is light at the end of the tunnel; we have officially made it through the winter months!

Spring Sports

Nothing says spring like catching a Woo Sox game at Polar Park! Sitting outside in the stands is definitely a refreshing change of pace from attending indoor games over the last few months. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, there are plenty of other spring sports games to watch in the coming weeks.

Spring Cleaning

Since spring is a time of renewal, the season is a perfect time to get some cleaning done. Whether you’re organizing your closet or even going as far as deep-cleaning your dorm room, this therapeutic practice will leave you feeling more clear-headed than ever.

Summer Is On The Horizon!

Spring has sprung, which means that the next season to come is summer! If you’re a college student, we really only have a few weeks left before a long and well-deserved break. Let the countdown begin!
