Galentine’s Day Ideas That Will Make You Be Glad You’re Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

If you’re like me (and most twenty-something-year-old women), the thought of Valentine’s Day just makes you want to crawl into my bed, binge One Tree Hill, and buy all the Ben & Jerry’s from the local supermarket. But recently, I’ve been coming to terms with the fact that spending the ever-so-daunting holiday with your girlfriends can be equally (or more!!) fun than going on a stereotypical date night. So never fear! Here are some of my personal favorite ideas to make your evening a night to remember with the girls who will always have your back.

Galentine’s Themed Baking Night

My TikTok for you page has recently been filled with videos of girls baking the CUTEST heart shaped cakes with the prettiest pastel frosting and piping. And get this – they’re only using premade cake mix and frosting. Some girls even add the candy hearts as toppings. The possibilities (and fun!) are endless.

Rom-Com Movie Night

If you had to ask me my favorite movie genre, I honestly couldn’t argue that it’s not Rom-Coms. Some of my favs on Netflix right now are Someone Great, Silver Linings Playbook, and Holidate. Hulu also has some other great options, like Crazy Rich Asians, Love Simon, and The Wedding Planner.

Slideshow Night

Okay, you’re definitely thinking that I get all my ideas from TikTok, but honestly, I totally do. Gather a small group of friends and have each person make a slideshow about a random topic of their choice and present them to the entire group. The topics can be as fun or weird as you want them to be, and that’s what makes the experience so memorable! Below are some topics I would totally use:

– Which Disney Channel character is each of your friends and why?

– Ranking every one of your friends’ past exes or flings

– Which male characters from TV shows I would let hold my drink at a bar and why

– Ranking every song from “Mamma Mia” from best to worst

Themed Dress-Up Dinner

Pick a theme or a person and have each invitee dress up as a slight variation of the theme in question! This idea is totally supposed to be funny. I’ve seen people dress up as different album versions of Taylor Swift, or have each person dress up as another friend in the group. Then, have a fun and safe group dinner together. The pictures would be hysterical and would make it a night to remember!
