Cookie Party!

While we are currently deep in the trenches of finals, one thing keeping me afloat is the upcoming winter break. Like many of you, I am looking forward to spending time with my loved ones and enjoying the holiday traditions in my hometown. One very specific tradition that I simply cannot wait for is the cookie party!!!

You might be wondering, what is the cookie party? Well, it is exactly what it sounds like and it is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Every year, two of my best friends (they’re twins!) host a cookie party in the weeks before Christmas where we frost and decorate sugar cookies that they have baked. The tradition started in elementary school, where we spent more time eating the frosting than using it to decorate, and it still holds strong today. The cookie party has seen my friends and I through all of our stages of life. From adorable second graders to awkward middle schoolers (who couldn’t eat caramel because of our braces, but did so anyway) to super mature and sophisticated college girls! I say that last part with a hint of sarcasm. This is not to say my friends and I aren’t mature and sophisticated. It’s just when I’m around my hometown friends, some whom I’ve been friends with for over a decade, we can revert back to younger and slightly less mature versions of ourselves. I can act like my 8 year old self around them because we were friends when I was actually 8!

This article was initially supposed to be about my favorite Christmas tradition, and it still is, but it’s also turned into an ode to my lovely hometown friends. If you got anything from this article, it’s to host your own version of a cookie party with your home friends! What my friends and I might do this year is combine our cookie party with our secret Santa, so that is a possibility as well. In short, a cookie party is the perfect hangout activity. It is fun, festive and obviously delicious.
