I’m all for naturally encountering or taking suggestions for new artists and bands to listen to, and after recently viewing an Instagram story featuring a Congress The Band performance posted by a College of Charleston student I follow, I decided to look into the group further. I had never heard of the band before viewing the video in question, so I was eager to learn more.

Congress The Band is an up-and-coming rock band based in Charleston, South Carolina, whose songs consist of a mix of indie rock, Americana, funk, and traditional Southern influences. As they are based in Charleston, they have primarily been a local spectacle up until early 2026. This year has been a particularly successful one for the group, as they faced a 114.2% increase (4,540 people) in monthly Spotify listeners on April 5th, 2026, and are now touring around the country, for example.

To describe their sound in simple terms, Congress The Band’s discography consists of some perfect options for a backyard party at a college house, or would fit nicely into episodes of Outer Banks. Their songs are energetic and soulful, with electric guitars and driving drum beats often at the forefront of their music. Many critics describe the voices of the band members as “warm,” meaning that they have a friendly and sincere characteristic that encourages listeners to sing along.

If you are a first-time listener of Congress The Band, I highly recommend starting with “Out The Door,” their most-streamed song. It’s undeniably catchy and has a groovy quality that makes this a summer anthem (especially for me personally!). Similarly, “Modern Lady” is a great listen, and Congress The Band also uses their distinct sound to put their own twist on covers of popular songs such as Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie.”

All this said, definitely check out Congress The Band! With summer just around the corner, you won’t regret it!
