For years, I didn’t how to care for my hair, as I never quite understood what my hair’s potential was. In my awkward middle school days, I simply brushed out whatever curls I had and made it completely frizzy and messy. As I entered high school, I felt most confident just straightening my hair. It seemed the most normal and made me feel confident. I felt like there was nothing for anyone to judge if your hair was straight and simple. With curly hair, I felt like it always looked crazy, at least for me. When I wasn’t spending an hour blow drying and straightening my hair, I just let it air dry. This ultimately just kind of made it look a little odd. It was not straight and it was not curly, it just looked like it was waiting to be straightened or put up in a clip. All in all, I did not feel confident with my natural hair at all.

One day during the summer before senior year, my best friend (shoutout Jenna), told me that she heard about a product for people with curly hair that would activate their curls and leave it looking beautiful. That’s when I finally realized my hair’s potential and decided to invest in buying products to enhance my natural curls, instead of just hiding them through straighteners. I became so happy, as I finally could feel confident with my natural hair. Below are two products that I highly recommend if you feel like your hair has potential to have nice curls, but you just never knew how to do so.

The first product I ever used for curls was the SHEA MOISTURE CURL ENHANCING SMOOTHIE

Recently, another friend recommended this other product to me. I love both of these so I encourage you to try whichever one you feel would work best for you!

MISS JESSIE’S PILLOW SOFT CURLS

I hope these products work great for you! I’d also recommend using products to help improve split ends and a hair oil to maintain frizz once your hair naturally dries!

This is a hair oil I recommend: OLAPLEX BONDING OIL NO. 7
