A Long Islanders Top 10 Favorite Bagels

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

Spring break is so soon, that at this point I can practically smell the amazing scent of a fresh warm bagel on a Sunday morning. I can’t wait to walk into my favorite bagel shop on March 2nd, which is of course My Three Sons in Garden City, New York, which is currently rated as the best bagel spot on the Island. Even though I won’t be home all break, I’ll be making my way into My Three Sons enough to satisfy my cravings until Easter. As a New Yorker who has lived between two NYC boroughs and Long Island practically my whole life, I think my bagel opinions are very valid. So in honor of returning home so soon, here is my top 10 best types of bagels:

10) Holiday Bagels

These bagels are purely nostalgic for me. One of my earliest memories I have is attending the Rockaway Beach Saint Patrick’s Day parade, where my Mom bought me my first holiday bagel. It was a bright green bagel that made me so happy. Even though I don’t buy colorful bagels anymore, I love walking into a bagel shop on a holiday and seeing the bright and fun bagels. It truly brings me back to my childhood.

9) French Toast Bagels

To be honest I don’t love sweet bagels, however a nice warm french toast bagel is so satisfying when you’re craving something sweet.

8) Plain Bagels

Sometimes, especially before a road trip, you don’t want a messy bagel. Sometimes all the seeds or extras on a bagel fall off and make a mess. A plain bagel is perfect for trying fun flavors of cream cheese or as a base for a bagel sandwich. Unpopular opinion but I dont think it’s a crime to ever order a plain bagel.

7) Poppy Seed Bagels

This is definitely not my first choice, but definitely a great back up bagel! The seeds add a delightful crunch and a subtle nutty flavor that perfectly complements the soft doughiness of a fresh bagel.

6) Asiago Bagels

To be honest this is one of the few bagels I think you can eat without putting anything on them. They bring a cheesy, savory goodness that takes your taste buds on a delicious journey with every bite. As a cheese lover, these are definitely one of my favorites, and everyone should try one!

5) Mini Bagels

Now this may be unpopular, but sometimes I just can’t manage eating a whole bagel. New York bagels can be really big and fill you up for a long time. Mini bagels, on the other hand, are perfect for snacking or mixing and matching toppings, making them a versatile and convenient choice for any occasion. They are especially great to bring to parties on a platter.

4) Egg Bagels

A Nice warm hot egg bagel is one of my favorite foods. It’s honestly hard to describe the flavor, but the egg just adds so much more to an often boring option. Egg bagels offer a rich, slightly sweet flavor and a golden hue, providing a satisfyingly hearty bite that’s simply irresistible.

3) Sesame Seed Bagels

The one and only downside of an everything bagel, is that it can leave your breath smelling bad. If I can’t handle the smell, a sesame bagel is my second seed bagel of choice. The crunchy exterior and a soft, chewy interior, creating a delightful textural contrast that keeps you coming back for more.

2) Egg Everything Bagels

These bagels combine the rich, savory taste of eggs with the irresistible crunch of sesame, poppy seeds, and onion, creating a flavor explosion that satisfies both your savory and crunchy cravings in every bite. They elevate the experience that comes with an everything bagel.

1) Everything Bagels

Everything bagels are my go-to choice for breakfast, pairing perfectly with eggs and cheese for a delicious morning treat. They’re always a reliable and delicious option that I eagerly anticipate enjoying while I’m home. My mouth is watering just writing this. Absolutely nothing beats a nice warm everything bagel.
