8 Key Things to Remember Before Going Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

Everyone at Holy Cross knows we work hard and play hard. However, sometimes plans go awry, the weather is dire, or your friends have a little too much fun, and then things get hectic really fast. So, here are a few things to keep in mind before a big night on the hill:

  1. Know your limitThe worst way to end a night is having to leave a party early because you are feeling less than stellar. Sure, every college student has nights when they let loose a little more than usual, but don’t make it a regular thing. It’s definitely important to know your limits and to keep track of how much you drink in a night. Not only for your own safety but also for the sanity of your friends.
  2. A cheap jacketUnless you’re in California or Miami, a jacket is a must. As most Crusaders know, Worcester gets super cold super fast, and the winters here seem to last forever. So, unless you want to develop frostbite on your way home, make sure you have a warm sweatshirt or jacket with you at all times. Preferably a cheap one, because chances are you’ll end up leaving it at Leits or the lax house (R.I.P my jean jacket).
  3. Take picturesNever forget to snap some pics! Whether they’re for instagram or Facebook, always make sure you take at least a couple pictures to remember your night. College is supposed to be the best time of your life, so make sure you document all the fun moments with your gals so you’ll have something to remember these times by.
  4. MoneyAlways, always, always bring at least $20 with you when you go anywhere that requires a cab. You never want to be the cheap friend that never pitches in for the taxi or always mysteriously “forgets” cash. Trust me, just about every college student is poor, so don’t be that girl that is constantly owing people money.
  5. Who cares what people think?Haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate right? Honestly, who cares what the judgy girl standing in the corner thinks!! Dance on the table with your bff if you want too. The key to having fun in college is being your own person, acting absolutely crazy, and not caring what anyone thinks.
  6. Hair elasticFor us long-haired gals, a hair elastic is a must. Sure, you spent 45 minutes getting your hair into that perfect beachy curl, but once you’re out with your friends dancing to “Shake it Off” or pushing your way through a huge group of incredibly aggressive girls, you’re going to get hot really fast. You won’t care what your hair looks like anymore, as long as it’s out of your face.
  7. Always have a buddyBuddy system! It’s been a thing from preschool to middle school, and college is no exception. Always make sure you have a buddy when you go out-you can keep track of how much your buddy is drinking and ensure they get home safely, and, hopefully, they’ll do the same for you!
  8. A backup planEveryone knows college parties can get busted pretty quickly, so always have a backup plan for impromptu cancellations or an early police-related breakup. Whether this plan involves another party, a trip to a local bar, or just a run to Crossroads for pizza and french fries, make sure you and your gals always have something fun to do just in case your plans don’t pan out.
