After a long, relaxing summer, the time we have been waiting for has finally come – back to school! In order to stay on top of this season’s latest styles on campus, we’ve come up with a few fashion essentials that are definitely worth the investment. Being on a tight budget is a constant struggle for everyone, and it’s never easy to spend big money on clothes. HOWEVER, there are just some items a Holy Cross student can’t live without.

  1. Ankle boots: Not sure what shoes to wear when it’s time to transition from summer to fall? These will take you from sundresses to sweaters paired with a simple pair of jeans that can be tucked in or cuffed. Whether classic or edgy, casual or formal, these go-to shoes are the perfect fall piece to accessorize with.
  2. Tote bag: When it comes to going to class, dinner, the gym, or even traveling on the weekend, they are useful anytime and anywhere. With so many options and styles ranging from canvas, leather, and even the ubiquitous Longchamp bag, you will have no trouble finding the right one suited to your style. There’s no doubt you can fit everything (and more) in them.
  3. Sweaters: In any style – cardigans, crewnecks, or v-necks – they can be paired with leggings on a lazy day for class or can be thrown on with jeans or cords for a quick but cute weekend look. If possible, try to buy the best quality sweaters available, as they look better, last longer, and feel cozier.
  4. Leggings: A good pair of leggings will last you a lifetime. Absolutely essential for college life, you will find yourself sporting them at Kimball, Dinand, the Hart Center, and, basically, everywhere on campus. They can be worn with anything from button downs to sweaters to casual tees, and you will not regret spending a little more on a nicer pair like lululemon.
  5.  Little Black Dress: Whether it’s a Wednesday or Saturday, you’ll find yourself needing something cute to feel confident and fabulous in every time you slip it on. Going to dinner with the girls or dressing up for a formal, the LBD is a classic piece that will never go out of style. The key to all of this is to find high-quality, versatile items that will survive Worcester’s weather. You’ll end up getting so much use out of each of these pieces that the price will be worth it in the end. These items will not only keep your style up to date, but they will also last you four years on the Hill and, hopefully, more. Remember to layer and play with textures, patterns and colors to add your own individual flair to every ensemble you’re wearing.
