If you’re a true crime fan, check out these three acclaimed books. They definitely live up to all of the hype.

“In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote

One of the OG true crime books, In Cold Blood created the non-fiction novel and the narrative aspect of true crime stories that we’ve all come to love. Plus, the film Capote dramatizes the process of writing the book and the relationship between Capote and one of the murderers.

“Helter Skelter” by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry

Helter Skelter tells the story of the Manson family with a focus on the legal aspects of it. The writers reveal information slowly and precisely in order to keep building suspense throughout the book. It reveals so many details about a story that I thought I already knew — definitely worth a read.

“I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” by Michelle McNamara

McNamara is a modern legend in the true crime community. In this book, she investigates the unsolved case of the Golden State Killer. McNamara sadly passed away before completing the book, but it was finished with the help of her husband and two other writers. The book also inspired a docu-series on HBO, if that’s more your speed.
