Your Must-Haves for New Year’s Eve

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

2011 is quickly coming to an end. Doesn’t it feel like Halloween was just a week ago? As the holiday season draws to a close we still have one more celebration to participate in. Right around the corner is New Year’s Eve, a time for new resolutions and leaving the problems of the last year behind.  It sounds cliché but New Year’s Eve is a great time for new beginnings and fresh starts.  So while getting ready for your end of the year festivities here are a few items you will need to bring to your party to get the year started off right.

A sparkly item
It’s New Year’s Eve, it’s almost illegal to not add something glittery to your outfit. Whether you go all out with a sequined dress or simply carry a sparkly clutch make sure you add something to make your outfit dazzle. Don’t let the ball at Time Square upstage you.

Fake Eyelashes

Fake eyelashes are always a fun addition to your beauty routine. If you have never tried them before don’t get overwhelmed they are actually quite easy. Simply squeeze a small amount of the glue onto your hand and take the lash and lightly brush it thru the glue so you get an even amount across the entire end. Place the lash right above your natural lash line and secure it in by getting a bobby pin and pressing it lightly against the lash secured on your eyelid. I like to add an extra coat of mascara to the lashes to help them blend into my own.

Chapstick
If you’re planning on ringing in the New Year with a smooch make sure you have chapstick and a brand of non-smudging lipstick on. Burt’s Bees has a great line of chapstick with different tints of color to help compliment the shade of lipstick you’ve chosen to wear.

A plan

If you’re planning on getting a little tipsy this New Year’s Eve make sure you have a plan for the night. Make sure you have a sober ride home, a place to stay, or a car service to make sure you and your group make it safely home. People tend to get a little crazy so it’s better to be safe than sorry!

A resolution
Although most people abandon their resolutions before they even make it to spring break, it’s nice to think that if we actually set a goal for the year we can follow through with it. While most people make goals such as promising to lose weight, or hoping they will suddenly become more organized I tend to make resolutions I know I can keep.  Resolutions such as be happy, dance to more Spice Girls in the morning while getting dressed, or consume at least 1 piece of chocolate per day. This way when I actually obtain my goals I feel productive.

Hope you all have a safe and happy New Year. See you all in 2012!
