Which True Crime YouTuber’s Should You Be Watching?

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

If you are a true crime person like me, sometimes it can be extremely hard to find content that you haven’t seen before. We all have heard of very famous true crime cases, including the Night Stalker, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, and more. But sometimes learning and educating yourself on smaller cases is what you are looking for. I find myself looking for cases where, sometimes, I can even help and be an active true crime listener. Filling out petitions, reading articles, and educating myself on different issues around the world all stem from watching and acknowledging smaller cases that need more attention than they are getting. If you are looking to learn about what true crime YouTubers you should be watching to become an active true crime listener, keep on reading!

Eleanor Neale

Eleanor Neale is a 25-year-old YouTuber best known for her self-titled YouTube account, where she posts videos about true crime and beauty. She has accumulated 2.6 million subscribers since the start of her YouTube channel in 2016 and is from England. Eleanor is a wonderful source of true crime content, as she posts cases very frequently. You can tell right off the bat that she works hard on the content she is putting together to share. With numbers, places, names, data, and more all ready to be shared with her audience, she always makes sure to give as accurate information as she can. One thing that stands out about her channel is that she is truly sympathetic towards the victims and their families when posting this very tragic information online. She starts every video off with the disclaimer, “I mean no disrespect to anyone that I talk about in this video. Everything in this video is publicly available information that I and my team have found and compiled into one piece. This video will cover especially sensitive topics; viewer discretion is advised. While we make every effort to fact-check our sources and make sure all our information is correct, no action should be taken in reliance upon the information in this video. Please keep the comments respectful and kind. All opinions in this video are mine alone.” I think that it is important, especially as an influencer talking about sensitive topics, to give a disclaimer in advance, and without a doubt, in every video, she emphasizes her care for the people who have been affected by the cases she discusses. Her content is also very versatile, and she covers cases from all over the world! So, if you are looking for some new true crime content, definitely check Eleanor out!

Danielle Kirsty

Moving on to the next true crime YouTuber you should be watching, we have Danielle Kirsty. She is one of my absolute favorites on this list of YouTubers. Danielle is a 25-year-old woman from the United Kingdom. She has over 900k subscribers on YouTube and first started her channel in 2017. Danielle is a true crime YouTuber, but she also has a different aspect to her videos that draws me in. From start to finish in the videos, she does her makeup, usually matching it to the color of the nails she currently has on. Danielle has an incredibly bubbly and humorous energy that is enjoyable to watch, but she also makes sure to be serious when talking about the cases she is discussing. You can tell that she preps before her videos to make sure all of the information she is sharing with her subscribers is as accurate as she can find. Similar to Eleanor, Daniele makes sure to give disclaimers in her videos, especially when the topics being discussed in the true crime content are very graphic or just topics that could trigger people who may be listening. Again, this level of care towards not only the audience but also the people involved in the case is something that I like about these YouTubers. You can tell they care, and that is important. If you are like me and love beauty content but also enjoy learning about crime cases from across the globe, you will love Danielle Kirsty and should check her out on YouTube as well as her other social media platforms!

Bella Fiori

The next true crime YouTuber you should check out is YouTuber Bella Fiori. She is a 26-year-old from Brisbane, Australia, who first began making content and posting it to her self-titled YouTube channel in early 2015. Bella has 2.5 million subscribers and makes content on several different cases, big and small. She also makes videos discussing popular conspiracy theories. She has a video series on her channel called Mystery Monday, where she uploads her true crime content. She posts other styles of videos, such as vlogs and makeup content, so having a dedicated series name lets her subscribers know that this video is going to be one of her true crime videos. She researches cases from all around the world, but most of her content does discuss cases from Australia, as she is from there. I enjoy this content because, as someone who is not from Australia, getting to learn and understand cases from this location is interesting. I get to learn about how law enforcement and government systems differ from continent to continent, and most of these cases enlighten me on the ways that different governments deal with crime. You would be surprised to hear the way places across the world deal with criminals. You can also clearly tell that Bella does her research before she films her videos. She provides as much detail about the cases she talks about as she can, which is enjoyable to watch because I feel like I am getting a lot out of her content. Her content is very educational, and you know she cares about the content she is releasing to her viewers. If you are looking for true crime content that is not U.S.-based, Bella Fiori is a wonderful resource that is worth taking the time to watch and follow across all social media platforms!

Kendall Rae

The final true crime YouTuber I will be recommending today is my favorite true crime YouTuber to watch in my own free time! Her name is Kendall Rae. She has been on YouTube since 2012 and has changed the content and name of her channel several times since the start. However, once she started posting true crime content, she knew that this was what she wanted to do with her life. Over the last 12 years on YouTube, Kendall has accumulated 3.7 million subscribers on her self-titled channel and over 400k on her Instagram account. I personally enjoy her content because of its variety. She posts 30- to 45-minute videos, sometimes, educating people on smaller cases or larger, more well-known cases. However, she has also done several different documentaries on her channel that are about two hours long or multiple-part series about cases of her choosing. Most of the time, she chooses cases that are not well known to the public but involve individuals or circumstances that she finds need to be brought to the public’s attention immediately. She has done a documentary series on indigenous women and the crisis we are facing across the globe with indigenous women being murdered and kidnapped. She supports the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children by collaborating with them on her website, with her merchandise profits going straight to the foundation. She donates profits from certain videos she posts to this organization, and she is truly an advocate for being an active true crime listener. In all of her videos, she makes sure to acknowledge that these cases are about real people and real families, and everyone should be respectful and compassionate towards the victims. Sometimes, through her content, she will have members of the victim’s family interviewed for her case videos so that we have the best points of view and understand the content she is providing us. Overall, from being a supporter of Kendall, you can tell how dearly she cares about what she does and wants to make a difference in the world. I 100% recommend checking out Kendall on her YouTube channel as well as her other social media platforms. You can even listen to more true crime content from her anywhere you can listen to podcasts, as she has a true crime podcast she does with her husband!
