Tuesday Ten: Musicians to Check Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

In light of the Grammy’s, I wanted to write a post focused completely on musicians, whether they be up-and-coming or already successfully selling out stadiums and topping the iTunes charts. While everyone has their own taste in music, these are ten artists/groups that are currently a big deal!

  1. Ed Sheeran

This British singer/songwriter is known for love songs and beautiful acoustic music. While his bright red hair sets him apart, his genuine love and passion for music is showcased in his songs. Not to mention, the 21-year-old is a lyrical genius – his music is guaranteed to make you fall in love!

  1. Macklemore

Macklemore is a multi-talented hip-hop singer, MC, and rapper. While he is most-known for his catchy tune, “Thrift Shop” which topped charts, he has also wrote meaningful songs/raps like “Same Love” which has lyrics focused on gay equality.

  1. Carrie Underwood

This country beauty has come a long way since American Idol. With her new album “Blown Away” reaching success, a sold-out tour, a Grammy performance AND multiple nominations this blonde is a force to be reckoned with.

  1. The Lumineers

Best known for their song, “Ho Hey,” this Denver, Colorado folk band has made a huge name for themselves in 2012. The Lumineers are gaining speed up in the ranks with top folk bands like Mumford and Sons.

  1. Nina Nesbitt

While Nina Nesbitt is not the most well-known singer, this British songwriter is a rising star across the pond. Her sweet voice has covered songs by Ed Sheeran and others, and her talent was recognized on her YouTube channel. Check out her newest video EP, “Stay Out,” a fun song to listen to when getting ready for a fun night out with your girlfriends!

  1. Justin Timberlake

Everyone knows this household name. After pausing his music career to act in a few movies, Timberlake is back with his single, “Suit and Tie”. It should be interesting to see what he has in store for us in 2013. Rumor has it, he may be leading a tour with Jay-Z!

  1. Fun.

The name of this band really does say it all! Fun has had a number of top songs in the past year, some major titles being “We Are Young” and “Some Nights”. The lyrics are catchy, fun to dance to and will definitely get stuck in your head – in the best way possible!

  1. Mumford and Sons

It’s hard to even describe how much success this British folk-band has had in the past few years. Their first album Sigh No More was a major statement in the music industry and their latest album Babel is no different. The thing that makes this band so unique is their sound. They incorporate instruments like the violin to get a sound unlike any other band. And now they also have a Grammy!

  1. Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars looks like a character right out of the 1950s and his rich voice is no different. He is a classy gentleman with a sexy voice that will make any girl drool. His latest hit song, “Locked Out of Heaven” is my new favorite to dance around in my room to.

  1. Fall Out Boy

They’re back AT LAST! I don’t know about you, but I feel as though I’m reliving middle school all over again. Fall Out Boy has a new single out called, “My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark.” I’ve definitely missed those long titles and fun songs to rock out to!
