Are you a college student looking to save money? Thrift stores are a great way to save on staple wardrobe items while also being environmentally savvy and finding a use for others’ donations. College dorms have limited space (ours do, at least), so it’s best to have reliable clothing items that can be styled in several different ways. We took a trip to some of the top-rated thrift stores within a ten-minute drive from Hofstra. No matter what you’re looking for, one of these stores is bound to meet your needs.

Canny’s Thrift Shop

Canny’s Thrift Shop is small, but stocked! The store had nearly every category of clothing along with any accessories that you could think of, including a display case full of jewelry by the register. The general prices were great along with many discounts throughout the store. There were also miscellaneous clearance sections with even further markdowns. If you’re searching for a specific item that will be a must-have in your wardrobe, Canny’s Thrift Shop is the place to go.

Savers

Savers is a go-to for Hofstra students. The store had basic closet staples at great prices, with dress pants being only 10 dollars. Along with clothing, Savers also has a section dedicated to CDs, DVDs and books. They had popular modern items such as Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight novel and the Divergent book series by Veronica Roth, as well as vintage Aerosmith, Elton John and Paul Anka CDs. In need of a closet makeover? Savers has your back!

MyUnique

MyUnique was a bit more elevated than the first two stores, but for good reason. It’s larger than your average thrift store, so make sure you save some time in your day to really look through everything they have to offer. There are tons of awesome finds and name-brand items like Champion, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, so don’t give up if you can’t find something right away. MyUnique also has an extensive “non-clothing” section with kitchen, household and entertainment items. If you’re in the mood to do some searching, you’ll find upscale items with unbeatable bargains at MyUnique.

We hope this list is helpful for the next time you are in dire need of a good thrift store find. Grab a friend or two and check out these three local stores on your next shopping spree!
