Class-Standing: Sophomore

Major: Journalism

Hometown: Saint Paul, Minnesota

What made you come to Hofstra from Minnesota?

I came to Hofstra from Minnesota for the journalism program and their unique school clubs. I have always wanted to live in New York City, and I thought Hofstra would be a nice transition before I hopefully live in the city.

What are you involved in around campus?

I work at The Hofstra Chronicle as a writer, and I also help edit the paper. I am involved in the Society of Professional Journalists, and I am attending a journalism conference in a few weekends. I work with Entertainment Unlimited working on their club events and promotion. I also work on the Thursday Night Live shows on set usually. Then on Saturdays I go rock climbing with the Hofstra Rock Climbing Club.

How have these clubs contributed to your aspiration of becoming a journalist?

I joined each one of the clubs because they interact with a different type of person on the Hofstra campus. I really like meeting new people and learning about different topics. This is all training for me becoming a journalist.

Where do you see your journalism career taking you in 10 years?

I am studying journalism with minors in Chinese and Spanish. I am hopefully going to Shanghai this summer with the Hofstra in China program. I have plans for a semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain for this fall. This is all part of my plan to become a travel journalist. I have always really admired National Geographic and news outlets that do stories abroad.

What are you looking forward to most in going to Spain?

I am really excited about the food in Spain. I really like seafood and tapas, so it will be a perfect culinary fit.

What is your favorite thing about Hofstra?

My favorite thing at Hofstra would have to be the school clubs. We have many very unique clubs that many other schools don’t have. They each help work with a different type of student so everyone feels included.
