HC Hofstra Campus Correspondent Sidney Madden blogs about her experience at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Part 1: “All Roads Lead to Charlotte”
As a rising junior and journalism major at Hofstra, I’ve come to admire and respect the power of not only our accomplished School of Communication, but of the University itself. Since my freshman year, I’ve witnessed Hofstra flex its muscles of civic engagement and political prowess in more ways than one. There’s no doubt that Hofstra collegiettes have heard the buzz about our school hosting the presidential debate for the second time in four years, but I never thought that I’d personally reap the benefits the university’s connections. That is until; I received an email that I had been selected to represent the Pride at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC. That’s right collegiettes! A political, journalistic and networking opportunity of a lifetime—two weeks in Charlotte, NC to attend seminars through a program called The Washington Center and assist in convention proceedings.
But of course, as the student-journalist I am, I want share the wealth with my fellow Hofstra co-eds Her Campus style. I am here in Charlotte from Sunday August 25th to Saturday September 8th and will be blogging on all my experiences for you, HC’ers.
What can you expect? Everything from interviewing delegates, reflecting on seminar reading and discussions to celeb-spotting and connecting with other students from across the country, not to mention documenting my fieldwork placement during the exhilaratingly hectic 3 days. I will be updating this blog series every few days both to inform and entertain, so keep checking back.
