The Best of Fall Television

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

How are we ever going to cope with Breaking Bad being over? What the heck are we supposed to watch now? Never fear, here’s a Fall 2013 television forecast for every couch potato out there.

The Walking Dead

Zombie enthusiasts, your wait is over. The Walking Dead finally comes back with its fourth season on October 13th on AMC. This new season is set six months later from where the last season left off and has all the promise to go above and beyond in the undead gore department. Scott M. Gimple, TWD writer/showrunner, has confirmed that this season is going to get “emotionally painful” and that the zombies are going to get “progressively worse.”

American Horror Story: Coven

American Horror Story picked up its third season on October 9th on FX. This season’s storyline is focusing on a coven of witches in modern-day New Orleans. Big name actresses join the cast, such as Emma Roberts and Kathy Bates, along with fan favorites Jessica Lange and Evan Peters, to name a few. The beauty of this show? You don’t have to play catch up on the other seasons to understand what’s going on now.

Pretty Little Liars/Ravenswood

Don’t forget to tune in to ABC family on October 22nd and see what Halloween debacle befalls our favorite little liars this year! On top of building off of the mid-season shocker from August, this episode will also give you crucial information for the PLL spinoff Ravenswood, and how Caleb possibly could get himself into a situation that would require a spin off like that.

New Girl

For the viewer who prefers to spend their nights laughing and not fearing things that go bump in the night, try New Girl! Zooey Deschanel and company are back with more antics that will have you giggling to yourself days after. After countless seasons of waiting, Jess and Nick are finally together, but why is Schmidt trying to break them apart? Here’s hoping that Schmidt’s plan falls through as they usually do. Season 3 aired on September 17th.

Once Upon a Time/ Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

Say goodbye to Story Brook, and hello to… Neverland! The new season of Once Upon a Time, follows a strictly-Peter Pan storyline/setting, with all the main characters thrown in. And if that isn’t enough Once Upon a Time for your viewing pleasure, try the Wonderland spin off, premiering on October 10th . Although no characters from the original show cross over to this one, it follows the same format of switching between reality and the fairytale through flashbacks.

Greys Anatomy

Greys is still going strong as it enters its 10th season on ABC on September 26th. This season, Meredith and Derek have a kid; Arizona and Callie are on the rocks; and the interns mourn the loss of a fellow colleague. And, of course, we can expect a butt-load of kick-ass medical traumas to be sprinkled in. Also, Sandra Oh, who plays Cristina Yang, has recently announced that this season will be her last on the show. So you can be sure that writer Shonda Rhimes will rip our hearts out with that farewell.

Glee

After two weeks of the Beatles, and a heart-wrenching farewell episode to beloved cast member, Cory Montieth, Glee has already started out impressively. Hopefully, the show will be able to stay on their high-note, as we continue to see how the glee club will cope after the loss of Finn Hudson. Demi Lovato joins the cast as a love-interest to Santana and Rachel Berry gets to have her go as Fanny Bryce in Funny Girl on Broadway.
