Adam Weary: On Earning a CIT Bid

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at High Point chapter.

Adam Weary plays on the Men’s Basketball Team for High Point University. This is the 2nd season The High Point Panthers have received a CIT bid and they are hoping to win it all.  Weary is headed into his fourth year of playing basketball for HPU and is determined to be the best he can be at the sport.

Hometown: Memphis, TN

Major: Business Admin.

Fun Fact: I have never had a mosquito bite or the chicken pox.

HC High Point: Following your last game, your team earned a CIT bid. Were you particularly surprised to hear this?

Not at all. We finished the season 22-9 and were ranked as one of the best mid-major teams in the country. We were aware that we would play in a postseason tournament.

HC High Point: This was your second CIT appearance, what was different for you this year?

The first time we played in the CIT we weren’t as good as this year’s team and we were content with just having a postseason game. This year the mindset was to try to win the whole tournament.

HC High Point: This year’s team seems to be very close knit, what is it that makes you all so connected?

Every year I’ve been here the team has been really close. Our coaching staff is big on creating a family atmosphere, and we spend so much time with each other that everyone just slowly becomes tighter. Realistically, we spend more time around each other than we do with our biological families. We don’t get any breaks or anything like that.

HC High Point: You just finished your third basketball season. What is your mentality about heading into your senior year and final season?

My only focus is on winning the conference tournament and playing in the NCAA Tournament.

HC High Point: Who or what inspires you on and off the court?

My mom is surely my biggest inspiration. She raised my brothers and me on her own in Memphis, TN and that is not an easy task at all. She has done so much, and sacrificed so much for me that I always want to make her proud whether it’s by my play on the court, or by the way I carry myself off of it.

HC High Point: Any dreams for after graduation?

After I graduate, I would like to play professionally for as long as I am blessed with ability to. And after that, I would like to get into college coaching.

(Good luck boys!)
