Travel Fever: Galway, Ireland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

I recently travelled to Ireland for the first time in my life: I went to visit a friend in the delighfully charming city of Galway. My stay there was filled with rain and wind – as expected – but that didn’t hamper my mood.

During the first day, I went to the market with my friend. The explosion of colorful art and delicious smells of foods was overpowering. I loved every second of it.

After having explored Galway thoroughly, I ventured further and visited the famous – and gorgeous – Cliffs of Moher.

Having loved the guided  tour to the Cliffs so much, I chose to do also the popular Connemara tour that showed me the variety and extremity of Irish landscape.

The Connemara tour’s highlight was a visit to the Kylemore Abbey: it felt as if I had stepped into some period drama. The castle and the surrounding nature were breathtaking.

There aren’t enough words to recommend a trip to Galway and by doing a bit of research one can easily find tickets fitting to a student budget. Galway is also filled with several affordable hostels that include breakfast and offer all the necessary services. Maybe next time you think of going on a holiday, give Ireland a chance!
